Holy cow the exaggerations around Jaylon's performance around here. The guy can't cover. As a player, there is very little to differentiate him from Vontaze Burfict - character not withstanding.

I can't honestly believe that people would rather have Jaylon than Lawrence.

coverage was a strength in college and in his draft profile. is this a result of the knee?

Ok, good enough. I'd rather keep Jaylon and LVE and move DLaw if need be.

We need a pass rush in the worst way. If we don't have that, we can kiss a SB run goodbye. But we cant be held hostage by Lawrence. If we let him go then he has to be replaced with equal talent. Hard to find since Lawrence is great. Getting a first and 3rd type scenario would be the only way to attempt that. Then using that 20 million slot to get another pass rusher or DT with pass rush abilities.

Not going to get anywhere near that kind of draft capital unless a team absolutely needs Tank to play for them this upcoming season. Then you're asking that team to pay him Mack, or close to Mack money and give us a 1st and a 3rd with surgery still pending? I know Tank is good but c'mon now. I think his legend is superseding his actual talent and growing by the day.

Now think of the alternative. Waiting until next off season and give up no picks for him. The contract won't be any higher. Right now he's asking for a contract worthy of a player than can draw 2 first round picks IMO. This is why I previously asked if his franchise tag was non exclusive. If it is, he should just sign it. If he's that good teams will be breaking down his door with offers. But that isn't going to happen either.

No, Tank is one of the top elite pass rushers in the NFL. He is hurting his value by not getting surgery.

Next year he will be signed for huge money if he doesn't play this year. I wouldn't trade him for anything less then that. The surgery he needs is a normal procedure. Not like its a knee.

This is no longer a passing league. RBs are being drafted very high in the draft again and teams are becoming run 1st teams. Even the Pats who never gave a 2nd thought to RBs drafted one in the 1st round last year.

The Patriots drafted Lawrence Maroney in the first round in 2006 and in 2011 selected Shane Vareen 56th overall. So every few years they take a RB high.

Of course not getting the surgery is hurting him. And he probably will get huge money, just not 23.3 Mil a year with 85M guaranteed IMO. If he doesn't play this year Dallas gets nothing. Better to get something for him than nothing.

Could be. He's never looked to me, in the NFL, like a very instinctual player. Jaylon is very much a see it, hit it linebacker.

When he sees it, he makes the play, but I don't think he sees the game very well. That could improve still, given all the time he missed, but I've never gotten the sense that he plays the game with much feel.

He's not.

Vander Esch is better because of his coverage ability.

Jaylon can thump better then anyone in football right now but it's a passing league and Vander Esch covers a ton of space.

Didn't Vander Esch get benched in the loss to the Rams?

I could be wrong, but Jaylon was drafted in the 2nd round. I think the comp would be equal to that.

You can tender him four different ways, the higher the tender the higher the salary to tender...

"What makes a restricted free agent different?

Unlike an unrestricted free agent who can either re-sign with their current team or test the open market and go elsewhere, restricted free agents are tied down unless a team allows them to become an unrestricted free agent.

Teams have four different tender options they can place on their restricted free agent that usually keeps those players from leaving.

  1. First-round tender: Free agent can negotiate with other teams, but original team has option to match any deal and will receive a first-round selection if it opts not to match the deal.
  2. Second-round tender: Free agent can negotiate with other teams, but original team has option to match any deal and will receive a second-round selection if it opts not to match the deal.
  3. Original-round tender: Free agent can negotiate with other teams, but original team has option to match any deal and will receive a selection equal to the round the player was originally selected in if it opts not to match the deal.
  4. Right of first refusal: Free agent can negotiate with other teams, but original team has option to match any deal. The team will not receive any compensation if it opts not to match another deal."

3 months recovery time on that surgery. He has plenty of time to get it done. Dallas can get asking price for him this year if they want to trade him.

The need to insert Lee over LVE was baffling.
I couldn't understand because with Leighton in we looked to control then running better than when Lee was in. On their last drive Leighton was in on first and second down but then Lee came in on 3rd down when Goff took off and ran for the first. Heath crashed down but i think Leighton would have made the tackle like he did against Philly and Dak would have gotten the chance to tie the game.

This franchise is too loyal to older players in my opinion. Play the rookie who is clearly better than the aging Lee. Now what Heath was doing on that play is another story.

If he gets it done I would agree except for one thing. What team is going to give Tank his asking price?

You want the specific name of the team that will pay him that? How could I possible give you that name? I have no doubt that some team would be stupid enough to do it.
