It was mutually agreeable. Witten decided he would rather play football than report it and ESPN agreed.

The team knows they're not getting a shot at either of the two blue chip TE's in the draft and Witten is better than anything they have and he knows most of the offense. Don't know what wrinkles Moore will add but I do not think that will affect the TE positions as much as WR and RB anyway. Moore knows they need to move the ball down the field and he has what looks like a top 5 WR corps and could be even better than that.

Witten brings a couple of things to the party, leadership and stability. Not many QB's get their #1WR and TE taken away in the same season and then a new #1 WR at the halfway point. One thing I've not seen mentioned as much is the acclimation of Cooper into the offense that fast. I don't think Owens did it that quickly and know Williams didn't. Laurent Robinson did and I do notice some similarity in their route running.

I really do think no one, including Witten, wanted him to hang it up last season. The opportunity was there and would not remain open and he was the best they had audition. Makes me wonder about just how bad the others were. No shame, that's not an easy job when they have a vet alongside them and a seasoned director and Witten had neither.

And I think he was getting some nudging from Garrett and Booger to come back beginning in the season.

I am glad he's back on the team and not on MNF. I call that a win-win for me. And the fact they got Cobb makes this work all the better. The receiving corps is an upgrade and that #2 is going to be fun to watch take his sophomore steps.

Or Witten helps Dak and the offense, because now they have to respect him and game plan for him. Even though he was not as hw was 3 years ago. He still is good enough to demand respect. Dallas just needs to figure out how to use him effective enough without being a progress stopper as well.
I think they will.
And it will open up the offense more.

Agreed. Also I think all of Dallas' moves this offseason have been pretty strategic, we've made some really under the radar moves that make a lot of sense leading up to the draft for us.

Dam, that dude looks like he is 60 years old, totally bald.

I cant believe that is our staring TE:facepalm:

Can you just hear that carnival barker Jerry shouting "Step right up, fans, see the world oldest and slowest functioning TE! Watch him scold the young un's, watch him run 4-yard routes! Step up! Step up!"

I believe it's a little 'o both.
Or is it Jerry, again, having a bigger heart than his brain?
Our TE corps, as weak as it is (Jarhead excluded) , needs reps and game time. I see Witten just delaying their progress.
I think it was strategic by Jason to buzz cut his Joe Buck plugs.

Witten at 20-25 plays per game will not delay the progress of Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz. In fact, he should have the opposite effect. There's nobody else I would rather have mentoring a young tight end than Witten.

I think he's coming back in 2019 as a complementary player-slash-goal line option; and he'll use this season to act as a bridge to a possible coaching career.

Because let's face it, that TV thing wasn't too smooth.
The Black Unicorn disagrees with your mentoring comment.

They will game plan Witten. Other teams will want the ball funnelled to him because he is no threat. That's why he had so many catches in prior years.

Teams have zero fear of Witten. And I'm sorry to tell you he SUCKS as a blocker these days.

The one area that he could have some value is on the goal line or very short yardage. But we will play him every down like this is ten years ago.

Hope he does not play every down. This will be a huge mistake. But if so Garrett will be of his own demise for allowing it.
I think he will surprise people and if he plays mo more than half the snaps, he will surprise people.
But the is just a thought or hopeful wishing maybe.

I will see how he looks in TC, then again probably not as I bet we won't see much action there.
But if limited in games, I think he will help at this point. However will it prevent them from drafting a TE in a deep TE draft class.

Look what happened when we lost Jason Witten Freddy and Dez Bryant. Prescott looked so uncomfortable. I think he's going to be a red zone specialty player. A comfort zone for Prescott in that area

Its bringing back a player they wanted to bring back last yr, who they never wanted to retire. Clearly this team thinks Witten gives them the best option to do what they want. To block, to beat Lbers on 3rd down, and to get open in the redzone.

Its funny how ex players and current players see Witten as a threat. Fans who sit on a couch think he;'s washed up. This is why they are where they are and fans are on a couch.

He had a job for 2019 word is ESPN were gonna give him another yr. He wants a shot to win a title. Cant blame him.

For the contract he's on, I'll take Witt all day.

I'm calling it now - he'll pass Dez in Cowboys touchdowns this year and probably have a Pro Bowl season again.
