By agreeing to this deal, Randy Gregory is giving up at least $1,409,000 in salary he would have gotten next year if he didn't get suspended. Those who think Randy isn't paying a price for his suspension are misinformed.

The tea leaves either indicate that the team believes Gregory will play, or they are just hoping against hope. Let's hope as fans that it's the former and not the latter.
Jerry is looking out for Gregory since the league kicked him out.

Sure and so is the Cowboys every time we have to try and fill the vacant spot he leaves behind. Address the position and get rid of this idiot. To watch fail test after failed test after failed test and still can't seem to figure out he can't be relied on and the position is too important to this defense to sink any money into a guy they don't know from 1 day to the next if he will once again get suspended.

This is asinine and fans wonder why this team is not successful anymore. Good franchises don’t conduct this type of action.

Move on from Gregory.

So what? He'll never play enough to earn what money he does get, money for nothing isn't cheap, it's expensive...

Randy contributes handily for as long as he's able to play. Therein lies the primary motivation to retain him.

If he were playing full time, the FO would be shelling out multi millions of moneys they value tremendously.

Not surprised. They’re hopeful he’ll be reinstated. As we all are. He had 8 sacks last year. Kid is talented but has issues.

And he's like all of us - gets older every year, his available productive time is dwindling with every suspension, at some point it's just not worth the aggravation....

They did address the position by signing Quinn. Gregory won’t take up a roster spot if he’s suspended. Not until he’s eligible to come back. He’ll more than likely be better than most on the team so why not keep his rights?

Yes they had to go get Quinn. Fact is Gregory can't be relied on and frankly I don't know of any NFL team who would continue to give chance after chances on a player they can't depend on. It is stupid to continue the same old BS of hanging on to problem players.

This is a really smart move, he gets nearly the league minimum, with the hopes he gets to play this year.

Next season is the key. With the agreement ending this year, there is likely going to be a push to finally end the only major sport that still suspends players for marijuana use.

I feel certain there’s no way that will be in the next agreement. But it’s only my guess.

They know he’s playing.

They aren’t going to give money away when they don’t have to.

Great move getting a quality guy for cheap but they can not be foolish enough to ever rely on him.

Randy Gregory’s NFL contribution in the 4 seasons since the Cowboys spent a 2015 2nd-round pick on him:

28 games played, 7 sacks recorded (the rest of his stats are roughly equal to these).

Yes, RG is a good guy, yes he’s still young, yes he doesn’t cost much, yes he won’t take up a roster spot if/when/while suspended (again), yes our marijuana laws and the league’s stance on cannabis are ridiculous; I UNDERSTAND ALL OF THIS AND AGREE!

But at the end of the day, where/when has there ever been ANY consistent (please reread: CONSISTENT) indication that, when all the stars and planets are aligned, all fingers are crossed and he actually takes the field, Randy Gregory will RELIABLY perform at anything better than JAG level?

Yep. Sounds like the beginning of the end for Tank possibly as well.

This team, like any other, needs players as much time on the field as possible. Gregory's hit or miss games do little but keep the team from getting a bona fide pass rusher WHO CAN STAY ON THE FIELD.

Gregory's games here and there aren't helping the Cowboys win SBs, he's had his chances...
