- Every one of us have a guy in the back of our mind we prefer over Garrett. But I heard something today from Broadus on the Draft Show where he said.."
- "Garrett was the best talent evaluator this team has ever had"
- ."I had to stop at that comment and think about it.I had not considered that part of his job.I just considered Will Clay to be the main brain there. But if that is true..then you have to give him more credit than he has received for the job of building the team the last 3 years.
- It has improved a lot and normally I do not think of Garrett in the War Room as being a player.
But I guess I am wrong there. Broadus should know.He has been around a bit. Hmmm..
Gil Brandt was the best the team has every had at evaluating talent.Comments ftom the peanut gallery?

He’s not terrible and people that say that are using hyperbole or overly emotional or just not very bright.
But he’s also not a great coach by any stretch. He’s pretty much average. If that’s good enough for some, so be it.

This is when Broaddus tends to go overboard. Jason Garrett is clearly not the best talent evaluator the Cowboys have ever had. Jimmy Johnson was involved in building our last three SB teams and was instrumental in helping draft the teams we drafted. There is no way Jason Garrett rises to that level.
And let's be clear here, if you want to give Garrett some credit he has to bear some of the responsibilities for the failures as well. I see it time and time again where on one hand, someone will say Garrett is the driver of the roster, he's been influential in landing the good players but then turn around and blame the roster for being flawed when he once again fizzles out at the end of a season. You can't have it both ways. You can't just give him credit for the good parts of the roster and then turn around and blame Jerry and Stephen for the flaws in the roster.
And if you want to claim he was the solution to the problems we have, you again have to give him blame for the flaws in the set up. Someone noted below that it was Garrett that paired coaches with scouts or something to that effect............ but let's note that Will McClay is currently in his role because that scout/coach set up didn't work. There was so much chaos and confusion and discord come draft day between scouts and the coaching staff that Jerry had to put one guy in charge to filter the information coming from both parties and then build a draft board.
It’s entirely possible a very vocal segment of this forum has been poorly evaluating Garrett’s overall impact to our franchise.
It’s always appeared likely to me if we credit Jimmy for building the team in the 90’s and Bill last decade that’s this team can be credited to Jason.
It’s all in how you measure the results.Probably not.
Again, we are talking about a coach/talent evaluator that has delivered two playoff wins in 8 seasons. In the end it's all about results. I think Garrett supporters tend to grab onto nebulous things like "talent evaluator" and "culture" and other stuff like that to praise Garrett because in the end, they can't really defend how such a great coach and talent evaluator has such limited results in nearly a decade of being the HC here.
This is a very important season for his career trajectory IMO.
Hummm, motivator he says, but then we can have a bye week, come out looking like crap, we can earn a week bye for the PO's and come out looking like no one hit the film room, nor the practice field. Nope, I'll disagree with you there, about ALL this red headed cat is good at, clapping and butt slapping.Garrett is a master motivator I’ll give him that
He just can’t do much else

He’s built the most successful team this Century. And all of the results aren’t in yet.And Johnson built a 3 time SB champion.
What has Garrett built?
What you define as nothing is actually something more.I haven't. He is the head coach. He has won nothing in 9 years. He has spoiled some good careers in Dallas. He would not get another NFL job if he was let go in Dallas. He routinely loses games through clock and game mismanagement, every season. Jerry is the main problem in Dallas but JG is right there with him.

Too many fans want to compare to our championship history. I’d compare to this era.
I know it’s fun and easy to target Garrett but it’s actually very elementary. Then in Garrett's measurements, I use what I like to call the "turd" length. If we win, then it was a "looooong, drawn out" type of turd, you know the one you have to really work at. If we lose, then it fall's along the "sharted" lines.
