Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
Remaining on his contract: One year, $2 million in cash ($2.1 million cap hit)

For three years, Prescott has been the NFL's most underpaid player. That's about to change. It's unclear exactly how big his deal is going to be, but a quarterback who made just under $40,000 per game last season might very well take home $40,000 per snap this upcoming campaign.

It seemed like Prescott was on the downswing after taking a step backward in 2017 and struggling early in the 2019 season, but the arrival of Amari Cooper helped transform him and the Cowboys' offense. Prescott's passer rating jumped from 87.4 before the Cowboys' Week 8 bye to 103.0 afterward. His career rate stats are better than Wentz's, and that's before factoring in Prescott's health and his considerable impact as a runner. Prescott is not a top-five passer, but given that the Cowboys wanted to draft Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook before settling on Prescott, Jerry Jones & Co. shouldn't be confident that they can find a better quarterback than Prescott if they go back into the draft.

What his new deal could look like: Six years, $168 million with $60 million guaranteed at signing

The Cowboys build their team around a stars-and-scrubs approach and construct their cap around paying those guys on long, oft-restructured deals. It's a great approach when those players stay healthy and productive, but if something goes wrong, Dallas is left to pick up the pieces with lots of dead cap. (I wrote more about this last September.)

Given the way the Cowboys structure their deals, Prescott isn't likely to break the NFL record for average annual salary, especially if Wilson pushes that figure upward. It seems more likely that he'll set a mark for most dollars in an NFL deal, which this contract considers. Prescott's $168 million figure would top the $150 million Ryan got from the Falcons or the $155 million Goff would pick up from the Rams in the deal I mentioned above, although none of those figures is guaranteed.

Prescott would take home a $40 million signing bonus and keep his $2 million base salary for 2019. The Cowboys ran 1,022 offensive plays last season, so at that mark, Prescott would earn $41,095 per snap, topping his weekly base salary of $37,058 from a year ago. The Cowboys also would guarantee an $18 million base salary for 2020 to get to $60 million in guarantees, although they will almost surely turn most of that base salary into a signing bonus to create cap space next season.

About what I think he'll get except I think he'll get more than 60m guaranteed

That deal would effectively make it a 7 year deal for 24 Million per season. I would be fine with that depending on how the salaries are staggered throughout the deal.

I was watching a sports show with Marcellus Wiley and DeAngelo Hall and two other guys on the panel. The thing that I found to be very interesting was one of the guys asked Hall if it would have any affect on the locker room if Dak got a monster contract. He said absolutley!!! He said Dak isnt a top QB and those players would definitley be saying thats the guy getting all the money! He said Daks worth about 18-20 mil and with that salary the Cowboys can keep him surrounded with weapons.

When the dust settles on that supposed "six year, 168m" contract, it'll end up being a 4 year 90m deal with an escape hatch for the last two years.

I don't know why people get so worked out about these numbers. DeMarcus Lawrence's deal is basically a 3 year deal.

NFL contracts are the most bogus in sports.

Not sure how true it is but I read a tweet that Roger's $37M pay last from the first year of his new deal was the largest in NFL history. Dak would top that by $5M ( $42M the first year ) based on these numbers but if the average pay is $24M 7 years, it's a good deal IMO. This would lock him up for 7 years at the current franchise tag range. No question the tag range in 3-4 years will be close, if not over $30M. Other words, his $24M average in 3-4 years may not even break the top 15 for starting QBs and we'd still have him locked up for another 3-4 years.

While this is true, young QBs, more than any other position, usually play out their entire contract.

If the FO are idiots and give this below average QB a massive deal the locker room will become a Volcano that will erupt!
I've said it before and I'll say it again Dak's downfall will start in the locker room....

LOL. The same DeAngelo Hall who Dak smoked various times in 2016 says Dak is an "average" QB???

If I was Daks agent 24 mil is not acceptable especially when Cousins got 28 mil per season. With that said if they take the Tank approach and give Dak significantly more in guaranteed money I think as Daks agent I would go for that but it would have to be more than 60 mil....you just gave your DE 65 mil in guaranteed money. In reality if you front load the contract with guaranteed money like they did with Tank its better for Dak and the team.

That would be incredible

Count me in

I don't find that interesting at all. No substance.

Really highlights how little Hall knows when he calls Dak average then suggests a contract well below average.

s worth about 18-20 mil and with that salary the Cowboys can keep him surrounded with weapons.

I think you are dreaming,

How much is he making now? And how many weapons does he have? If Dallas pays him 20 million a season how many more weapons will he have?

You’ve said quite a few things before and again.

Always met with the same ambivalence

Anybody that says Dak is a below average QB can be taken serious on anything football related because they don't know how to stay away from their feelings and emotions and look at the facts. It's a personal issue these guys have with Dak. I'm not saying Dak is perfect cause he isn't but criticism based off of facts is different then throwing crap at the wall like Dak is garbage, Dak sucks, Dak is inaccurate etc.
