Last year, drafting a DE in the top 10 (No. 5) worked out well for Denver since Bradley Chubb ended up with 12 sacks. The year before there also was only one DL taken in the top 10 (Solomon Thomas) so far he has four sacks in two seasons. In 2016, Joey Bosa and DeForest Buckner are looking like very solid picks, but from the 2015 top 10, Dante Fowler hasn't been too good, Leonard Williams has been just a little better than that and Vic Beasley has had one really good season out of four.
How many of those guys would you trade Lawrence for straight up? Maybe Chubb, Bosa and Buckner (although he'd probably play 3-tech in our scheme). That's three (at most, and I think a fair argument could be made that none are better than Lawrence) out of seven top 10 DL taken in the past four years. That's 42.8 percent.
Are you satisfied with a less than 50 percent chance at success in a trade for your best DL?
