Terrible fire: Famed Notre Dame cathedral ablaze in Paris

Sad event whenever historical things are damaged

Even worse when they are of so much religious significance and basically irreplaceable

So sad

It's currently undergoing restoration, Police have stated it may be the cause, but obviously it's too early to say.
It's also one of the most protected buildings in France, it's not some local church You could just walk in and start a fire.
I hope you are right and it was a restoration accident. But I could very well be right.

That is one of the most horrible things I have heard of. As a Catholic, it makes me very sad. Beautiful cathedral.

As someone said prior, and during Holy Week too.

Indeed. This is such a massive week and this is at the height of tragedy given the magnitude of the week in the Catholic Church and the significance of Notre Dame Cathedral.

Interior doesn't look as bad as you might think.

The picture is unreasonably large when embedded, but here's the link:

Visited once, and it was an amazing place. I'm sure it will be just as amazing once repaired.

The landmark has survived wars, including WORLD wars, and revolutions but it will not survive this. Just waiting to hear if the cause of the fire was natural or manmade. It will be disgracefully sad if Notre Dame survived for over 800 years before some idiot destroyed it.

They seem to have done well to save much of the structure so hopefully it can be rebuilt to something similar to how it was. Windsor castle in England was restored pretty well after being ravaged by fire a number of years ago.

Luckily Paris didn't suffer the same level of bombing that many other European cities experienced during world war II. France had already surrendered when the Germans entered Paris which saved much of the city's most historical and iconic sites.
