What if Taco Charlton played up to the value of the 1st round draft pick that was used to acquire him? Would that have affected D Law's new deal? Would the Cowboys be SB champs right now? The FO has invested so much in this guy and has seen very little return on that investment. If we value 1st round draft picks then we need to recognize the difference Taco could have made to this team. Your thoughts?

That is an alternate universe Joe. We don't live there but if we did what if women were unicorns or mermaids, would we learn the unicorn call and go fishing. I don't know man, if I was going to create an alternate universe I would design something more than Taco flavored

He was the 27th pick.
What defensive ends outside of the top 10 talents make immediate impacts drafted that late in the first?

Watt is an OLB in a 3-4.

People acting like it’s a given he’d have 14 sacks with us aren’t being realistic. We just saw it with Kc.
They traded dee ford who other team deemed worthy of a 20m/yr deal because he wasn’t a Scheme fit for Clark who’s more of a traditional end.

Jerry and Marinelli dropped the ball royally by passing up on TJ Watt over soft Taco. Ugh.

Can you imagine if TJ was a Cowboy?

2018 results would have been:

D-Law: 10.5 sacks
+
TJ Watt: 14 sacks

:mad::(:confused:
I like that alternate universe. But my favorite alternate Cowboys universe is the one where Randy Moss is drafted as a Cowboy.

So you don't think Taco is a lost cause?

If taco played up to his potential and draft slot I think it would’ve gotten D Laws deal done sooner because he’d have had an even easier time with some attn drawn away.

Nope.

We had Law and Gregory last year at ends. We didn't lose in the division due to a weak link at DE. Our tendencies were exposed and they offensive line knew what the defensive line was going to do based off their stance/hands locations.

Unless Taco was the next Reggie White I doubt even a "good" Taco would of changed the outcome.
The Cowboys got gashed in the middle all night.

I don't get why everyone thinks TJ Watt is so good. Better than Taco, yes, but sometimes numbers lie.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/ne...-recent-weeks-improved-pass-rush-dramatically

Article shows how infrequently he was winning his battles, and most of his sacks were untouched. However, he did improve as the year went on, and is WAY better than Taco. I just think people need to pump the brakes on him being the next great thing.

Another alternative reality... D Ware comes out of retirement for a year and he's in great shape (see you can make alternative realities whatever you want). Does D Law get done at a lower cost? Does Quinn happen at all? And does anyone care about Taco? Can we even deal in reality?

First of all, let's kill the comment that Watt is "only" a 3-4 OLB. I can only assume people say that because of his size coming out.

TJ Watt came in at 252 pounds at the combine. We took Armstrong who weighed in at 257. Gregory weighed in at 235 at the combine.

Now would Watt have had 14 sacks here? Probably not. But there is no question that right now he's a better player, probably would have been better in Dallas than Taco has been and that this is another example of where the Cowboys are hamstrung by giving Marinelli way too much latitude on who he wants on defense.

I'll deal in reality... if Taco doesn't get it together in 2019, I'm moving away from him and giving Quin his money.

Imagine if Taco and Gregory both met their potential. And Lee didn’t get hurt half the time and Claiborne wasn’t a bust and we’d moved Jones to corner initially and Irving wanted to play instead of getting stoned.

Oh well...I’d look to who is making the decisions. That sure is a big chunk of our investments not coming to fruition.
