Appears Cowboys don't think another NFL team would pay Dak $30 million year (supposedly Dak asking price). Charean Williams thinks if Dak doesn't lower his demands the situation could go similar fashion to Washington with Kirk Cousins (franchised twice).

If we do the math that strategy would work out for Cowboys. Franchise tag will be $28 million next year & $30 million year after. Dak currently makes $2 million. So if you avg that out, Dallas would get Dak for next 3 years at about $20 million year. Then he walks and Dallas goes for new QB.

Colin Cowherd thinks the Cowboys should draft a Quarterback high in the draft. There is lots of smoke around Dak wanting to be paid like a top tier Quarterback. It will be interesting to see what happens if the safeties have all been picked and a Quarterback like Grier is on the board at 58.

We drated Mike White last year. Gotta see what he has in camp. He has the strong arm.

Smart thing to do, 2 years at most and you know if he's the guy and that costs 1 tag so total is 15M averaged, save the $$$$ and avoid a huge mistake, just plain smart. Dak has a over valued view of himself if he thinks he's worth 30M a year, tag him and see if any one wants to give up those 2 first rounders for him.(bet there are no takers)

All good and fine, except that 1) Jerry Jones is the owner/GM, and 2) Jerry Jones is all-in on Dak Prescott being our franchise QB going forward.

Anyone remember any major problems Jerry had with paying Tony Romo then-current market-value? Well, he’s not gonna have any problems paying Dak at today’s rate, either...and son Stephen, or anyone else, isn't gonna talk him out of it. You can take that to the bank.

They are simply speculating without any info on the deal or money being discussed by the team and Dak. If they tag Dak and the tag is $28 a second tag would be at least $33.6, but could be more depending on new contracts between now and then. Tagging Dak twice also means not having the tag to use on any other player, Zeke comes to mind. Tagging Dak twice is a horrible option, using any strategy employed by the Washington FO is a bad strategy in general. Tagging Dak once is fine, but that basically becomes the floor for any future deals. If they plan to walk away from Dak, then they need a plan in place before that happens and saying you will find a new QB is not a plan. It means tanking or acquiring resources and draft capital to make a deal for that new QB and hope that he is actually an improvement.

This ! I think it was a mistake then and it would be a mistake now but given our other options then and now it may just be how it works out

I believe Jerry wants jaylon and Dak as the faces of the franchise

I suspect you're correct, but I like the OP's idea better.

Plenty of time to work this out, Dak is still cheap this year and the FO knows this. Heck, they could sign a 3 year deal now for 60 million and achieve the same $$$s as this years pay and two franchise tags.

I know there has been a ton of in-fighting on the board about Dak, since that is the case here I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing is happening in the FO. IMHO the Foles contract threw a wrench in this negotiating sequence. We've built a team for a bus driver, not an elite QB. In doing so, maybe they figure they can't keep an elite team and pay the QB an elite price. If Dak was smart, take the 20 million, stay with the Boys and make up the difference as the QB of Americas team in endorsements and fame as the QB of the number 1 marketed team.

Or, take the chance and play out your contract at 2 million this year and let your play this season determine a greater value, if you produce.

Personally, I would be interested to see Dak on the tag next year, just to see if anyone in the rest of the league thinks he is worth 2 1st round picks. Dak could be our Herschel Walker next year. Could you imagine if Mike White actually can produce and we could get 2 1st round picks next year for Dak, that would be a win-win for anyone who considers themselves a Cowboys fan!

Is it just me or should a QB wanting top tier money actually play like one first?

Well, if there's any truth to this I'm glad that they aren't simply throwing silly money to re-sign the core.
That being said I think I don't think the FO would want to go down this path but we'll see.

Curious how fast they try to lock up Cooper so they don't have too many options when it comes to the tag next year

Definitely need to use that bargaining chip in the negotiations. And it wouldn't be a bad strategy either. I like that Dallas is just not paying these guys whatever they want.

Maybe Jones should learn to shut his mouth next time instead of saying publicly that Dak is going to get big money and he has earned every penny.

Everything was accurate reporting until you added in your own last line in there. "Then he walks and Dallas goes for a new QB". Amazing how a fan could know 3 years from now that he wants to get rid of a QB. LOL Hater much?
