I think the frustration is not that they picked Hill, but that they could of had him AND Thornhill both if they had waited it out a bit longer on Hill to select him. Small school, character questions, he would have likely fallen into the 4th/5th round where he was projected. Then we could be talking about Thornhill, McGovern, Hill and Pollard and would have met more needs and drafted where players were slotted to go.

Maybe or maybe not. I saw one scouting report that said the expectation is Hill would have gone in the top 60 picks, so it's hard to say how much longer he would have lasted. NFL.com had him projected in the 2nd round, and I saw others that had him projected to go in rounds 2-3.

I like seeing that, but notice that they come from players in non-power conferences. The real question with Hill (to me) is whether he can handle the jump to the NFL. It isn't all about just being the better athlete on this level.

At least based on NFL.com grading of prospects Hill 5.84 and Thornhill 5.85 so you have 2 guys grading out pretty much the same and in the end Cowboys went with the guy they liked

The fastest way to QB is a penetrating DT. Hill very well could be the best that we have had since Ratliff, and has the potential to be absolutely incredible. Hill inside, Lawrence outside are the 2 most important positions in this defense. Put Jaylon and LVE behind them and you got something. I am surprised how many people on this board are complaining about this pick.

Or he could be the 5th or 6th round pick that he was projected to be. And the bad attitude comes out after a slow start and the kid bombs.

That is just as likely. Were talking about a kid with a bad attitude that didnt even start his last year on the team. Its a huge risk. And we already know that he has poor technique in the run game and gets pushed back at times in the run game.

The Rams chose his RB partner at Memphis (Henderson) to be Gurley's backup in the 2nd round. If you can play, you can play.

Some truth to that, but why teams miss on so many draft picks is that it is hard to project how the guy who whipped Too Small University's top guard is going to handle going up against the best guards in football.

It is a fasicinating and frustrating industry I'm sure. How does a small school kid from Troy become "DWare" They are all lotto tickets and you hope you picked a winner.

Not really. They addressed the safety position well before the draft. Which is better than any of the available Safeties in the later rounds. I'd rather not draft a rotational caliber player to fill a starter role.

You have a better understanding than a committee of scouts and staff? I'm guessing they aren't as concerned about the secondary as they are the DL, which got man-handled in the playoffs.
