We paid Amari Cooper $411,765 last year to save our entire season.

I know in football terms that is cheap. I'm just saying football players are not really worth what they get paid. I'm not saying they shouldn't get what they are getting paid because they are a product of the market. You just can't ever convince me that they are worth every penny of it. There are much more valuable jobs that are worth more, but won't receive it because the public doesn't value them the same as entertainment. Same with movie stars. They make millions because of the money we spend on entertainment.

... And now I'm off that soapbox.

Even though they've both been blithering idiots talking to damn much singing Dak's praises whenever a microphone is shoved in their face? Come on now.... Dak's going to get whatever he wants because of our mom and pop outfit here.

He's certainly going to get paid more than I'm comfortable with. But there's nothing I can do about that as a fan but to hope that they're proven right. And that they have the foresight to have an out after a few years if they're wrong.

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly working toward a contract extension with quarterback Dak Prescott that would "approach $30 million annually."

Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported the update Tuesday and noted the Cowboys have made "more progress" toward a new deal with Prescott than with wide receiver Amari Cooper, whose demands have been "shockingly high."

Hill also noted the Cowboys "seem to be nonplussed" about making Prescott the highest-paid player in franchise history.

Remember those heady days of February 2019...when many Zoners were convinced Dak wasn’t gonna get more than $20-$22mil, tops?

Guess what, honeys...
:muttley::laugh::lmao::lmao2:
I don’t know if that many zoners were convinced that Dak wasn’t getting more than 20-22 tops?? I think many believed he wasnt worth more than 20-22 million tops and hoped the Jones wouldn’t even extend him ... I think most realized it was going to be the market going rate they just didn’t agree with the thought process or logic there of

I think this is because the pay scale for where Dak should fall has been established, much like it was for Lawrence. Wilson's contract set the tone for negotiations.

With Cooper, where does he fall? He's definitely the No. 1 and valued for us, but how does he compare with other No. 1 receivers. He and his agent are most likely trying to sell him as worth Odell Beckham ($18 million) or Antonio Brown ($16.8 million) money. Dallas probably wants him to take less than Sammy Watkins got last year ($16 million per year). So Dallas is probably in the range of $14 million or $15 million per year and Cooper's agents around $17 million to $18 million. It may be hard to get them to come off the Brown range, but Dallas should be ultimately looking at paying him around $16.5 million per year.

Beckham got $65 million guaranteed (five-year deal), but Brown and Watkins only got $30 million guaranteed on three-year deals, so it wouldn't surprise me if Cooper is looking for a higher guarantee, either, maybe more in the $40 million range, but if he's going to get that, we need at least a four-year deal and to bring his average down some (to around $16 million — which would be better than Watkins because of the higher guarantee).

Just looking at the numbers here tells me structure and guaranteed money will likely hold-up Coop deal if there's to be one. Anything over $17M would make him the 2nd highest paid. Can't imagine Coop demanded more to the point it becomes a deal breaker. But I can see them having issues with pay-out and guaranteed.

That was before QBs like Wilson started signing 35+mill dollar deals...

Honestly Id be ecstatic if we can get a deal done at around 26-28mill a year... The cap will keep going up and guys like Pat mahomes is fixing to break Wilsons deal and prbly get closer to 40mill a year

But many of us knew Wilson and the like were going to get those deals. It's called QB market inflation.

So we calculated our projections knowing that.

IMHO, Dak wants to be a Cowboy for life.

If that’s the case, I can see him signing for less than $30mil per...especially if he believes the Joneses will tighten him up on his next contract.

If dak is a gambling man... If he wins a Super Bowl or two he will be a legend for bringing us back after 2 decades of mediocrity and frustration..

He will sign a super max 2nd contract and will have a life after football like Troy and Tony do being able to hover around the game and still cash in big checks till he decides to cut that easy money gig off

I've always thought that paying Dak less than top 10 QB money is a hell of a deal..

If he signs a less than top 10 deal right now.. which will only fall down in total value as dudes like Mahomes, wentz, goff etc start signing closer to 40 mill a year that makes this deal even more of a bargain

huge mistake

IF the FO cant look around and see how bad those Carr and Cousins type deals add Ryan and Satfford did to their teams or did NOT do and still just hand 30 to dak..mistake..big mistake ill eat crow later if im wrong but hes worth 25-27 max and thats IT..anymore is big mistake, if it were my money hes getting 25 for 4 yrs and im done..let him go FT or FA and see what offers he gets and you can match or let him go..

Cooper will get paid top cheddar either here or elsewhere. The recent FA market shows that.
If the Cowboys want to retain him, expect to see them roll in quite a few brinks trucks over the next year or so for some players.
