In 2016 everyone thought when Tony went down, oh, no, now it's Kellen Moore, but when he broke his foot, many thought, oh no, Dak, we will be lucky to win 3 games now.
We lost only 3.

Not saying Rush or White will do the same. Hopefully we will not have to find out. Because Rush regressed last year and I was not impressed with White. I didn't even think they should have drafted him. Only think I seen from him he could throw the ball downfield with what seemed to be a stronger arm.

Without Dak, this team goes nowhere. The box will be stacked against Zeke. So can the backup get the ball to Cooper, Witten? Needs to be seen.
I am interested to see what Kitna can do with the backups, but on paper, we are doomed without Dak.

It’s annoying that the fact that Dak played poorly with Smith out is always portrayed as him playing poorly with Zeke out. His issues were with protection during that six game stretch, more than anything.

We were also missing Lee and Hitchens during part of it and couldn’t stop anybody on defense during that time, iirc. Zeke was a factor, but he wasn’t the primary issue.

DAK is perfect for us.

He has flaws but he has qualities uncommon in most other QBs.

We say that White and Rush are not capable of winning.

We do not know that.

They are not getting the shot DAK has.

Last summer was a disaster where we never played our starters and they looked like they had regressed.

It was not them as much as us.

We have problems dividing position play amongst several players to see them play.

It is happening at TE, G and DL and WR.

The backups are not getting meaningful reps and the price paid is poor play when they are needed.

As loaded as others say we are as a talented team..

we tend to squander it with repeating the same old mistakes and not having good players ready.

Randle was supposed to help Murray..never happened.

We ran Murray into the ground.

When Murray left..we crashed.

When Dez was released..we had nobody ready to step up.

The list goes on.

Truly everything that DAK has accomplished he has made with some of the best talent ever assembled for us.

Could our backups be needed this year?

If they are..great.

This new offense may help them tremendously as well as Dak.

Don't know.

Nobody knows.

DAK was a complete accident.

He was supposed to ride the bench before starting.

The fact he responded and succeeded has completely sidetracked our other QBs.

Before we give DAK $30 mil/yr..

I want to know more about White and Rush.

I think it's just short-sighted to proceed without knowing more.

White and Rush? LOL

The posts get more and more bizarre.

Zeke is the most important player on this team. We missed the playoffs when Zeke missed seven games.
Dak is a good player, but he's not a transcendent quarterback. Zeke is a transcendent running back.
In fact, you could make an argument that Amari Cooper is the most important player on this team. The Cowboys were going nowhere before he got here.
He helped Dak and the team make the playoffs.
Dak is the most important player on this team?

Zeke is a very important player, but I think Dak is just as important. You can't run the ball every play. Thus, Dak is very much a key factor for us. If he's having a bad game, Zeke may not be able.to help us. See the Colts game. If Dak is on, then we are in great shape. See the Jaguars game.
That's a good point. Zeke's backups were adequate to yuk! in the games he was out, but we haven't had to plug in another QB yet. Given the current QB backups, there isn't a serious threat to carry us. Neither White nor Rush have shown the mettle necessary to feel confident about replacing Dak if he goes down. Zeke has been the consistent workhorse, they are both important, but we are toast without Dak.

I think the last backup QB (other than maybe Dak) that I recall being a legitimate option was maybe Orton.

YES is the correct answer. Not even close. Without Dak we are dead in the water. NEXT.
Every teams starting QB should be the most important position to the franchise, but the bottom line is that will never be the case.
Saying without Dak we are dead in the water might be better stated, without Dak living up to fan expectations we are dead in the water.
Just resigning Dak does not mean those expectations will be met.

Sounds about right. He and Romo didn't get along. Finished his career in, where else? Buffalo!

That is a stunning coincidence. And before him was Jon Kitna. 2 backups in 10 years worth a salt. Dak may not be the best QB in the league. However, of the QBs on our roster, we don't win a game without Dak......unless it's maaaaaybe the Giants or Raiders.

While it was nice that we ended up getting Zeke, Jaylon, and Dak out of the 2015 debacle, it bothers me that the FO clearly hasn't learned anything from that season. Not saying that I expect us to have Nick Foles as a backup, but a solid backup, imo, is one of the most important positions in the NFL. We started with a great 2-0 record in 2015. We lost every game until Romo returned for the Phins, then proceeded to lose every game until a lucky fumble by Desean Jackson. Had we had better backups than Weeden, Cassel, and Moore, we might have had a chance at the playoffs. Yet, we essentially threw away a perfectly good season. That seems to be the plan if we lose Dak.

Well, I feel the passing game would have to adjust to a different QB, and it's not to say that they couldn't surprise us, but I'm not betting the farm. Just not a desirable situation if Dak goes down.
Now, to play devil's advocate, how many of us wondered how Dak would do when Romo and Moore went down in 2016 preseason? :D
