Nobody does "player/coach" like the Cowboys.

http://www.espn.com/blog/dallas-cow...nfl-players-add-to-the-cowboys-coaching-staff

Not only do they lead the league in former players on staff, but now they're in the business of having coaches on the roster, like they did with Kellen Moore in the past and now with Lee and Witten.

If only that strategy would pay off?
I think it's about to pay off. All we need is for Witten and Lee to be contributors on the field, not key players. Remember, players can spend as much time together breaking down film or working on fundamentals as they want, coaches are limited in the contact they can have with players by the CBA.

He's not a top DT lol. How you come up with that? Cut him and Hurns and bring in McCoy. Easy $$
1. I'd be on board with the moves, but judging by the teams lining up to sign McCoy, he might make more than he was scheduled to with TB.
2. Nuance my friend. There is a wide swath from top of the market to replacement level. You seem to miss this point consistently. He's not making top money - he's making moderate level money. And he's a moderate level player - (not to be mistaken with mediocre).

He is Top 20 but paid like Top 50..... that is value
Maybe top 20 DT. But there are different types of DT's with different schemes. Hard to judge if he's better than the space eaters as a 3-4 nose. His production in terms of 4-3 dt's is average at best. Is McCoy better than ty craw?

It's moderate $$ 4 years later. He's a JAG tho. It's not his fault. He would be a way better 3-4 5T than what he is here. We switched schemes and Jerry paid him anyway.

You assign the JAG label too liberally. That's why I say you lack nuance. A JAG is someone you can sign at any time and is worthy of consideration for roster churn. Crawford is better than that. Even if he's not worth his current cap hit, he'd be snatched up quickly if we let him go and it would be for much more than the league minimum for veterans.

I don't think so. People said the same thing about bumdrick and barry church. Where are they now? crawford maybe makes it one year on another team b4 he's unemployed. Coaches keep guys they "like" on this team. Production and talent aside.

Crawford is better than both of those guys. His versatility and ability to play solid, if not spectacular, football at multiple DL positions is a trait that will keep him around a while. I think you're letting the contract and your dislike of Rod cloud your judgment.

EDIT: BTW both Scandrick and Church started for teams last season. Scandrick played in the AFC championship game.

The contract is what it is. Rod sucks. But I'll be here when crawford leaves and we can have a discussion then.

The 3m in Dead Money isn't attached to him any more than it is attached to Tony Romo

It is a a Team cost..... it stays whether TCrawford goes or not

The only real cost is the base salary and that is 7m

Keep it 100

Cover your own eyes to that, not mine.

It's still ultimately tied to the overall cost for Tyrone Crawford.

TB was happy to see him go

He is done ...... paid out and played out

Yeah, tell that to the 10 teams lining up to sign him, while Suh jumped on lesser money and playing for that wreck in Tampa!

In theory, I think it's a great idea, but I'm eager to see results. Ideally, I'd like to see both Witten and Lee transition into coaching roles and stay within the organization. I think the minds and experience of both could prove invaluable to this team outside of counting against a fixed salary cap.

I don't i'd rather bring in real coaches with experience. Hard to coach players you were suiting up next to. Same as like being promoted to manager and managing the guys you were just on equal ground with

If the guys you were on equal ground with all looked up to you and followed your lead anyway, then the promotion works just fine. I've been on both ends of that exact situation and it works really well.

Maybe but a guy named Snake Lee and Witten who's never been talked about in a good way by any players that leave. Leaves me some doubt
