Thanks for your contribution, why even bother posting if your answer to everything will be “whatever happens will happen”? You could literally say that about any comment or post that hypothesizes about the future of this team.

did any ranting or raving make a change? has Dallas ever consulted us? some of us stll think the Cowboys are looking for a SB when evidence shows thats far from the truth. Whats going to happen is going to happen becase there are tons of factors going on we dont know about. Who knows, AC might take less to stay in Dallas because he feels he likes our team. WE dont kow what his agent is saying or whoever he listens to. whatever happens we arent changing it.

I understand that but typically in a public forum these types of topics are often brought up for fans to discuss. We still have threads about what “could of” happened if Dez caught the ball, if Romo were still the QB, if JG wasn’t the coach...at least this is more relevant whether we have control over it or not.

So out of curiosity, do you only participate in threads where your/our opinion can change something and if so what are they?

The last part is more relevant to these negotiations than whether Cooper is on the same level as JJ. We saw what the offense looked like last year before AC, and so did his agent.

Yup. Wonder if fans will turn on him like Lawrence if he and his agent .... gasp .... actually use their advantage in negotiations.

I have to go buy some pearls to clutch.

At any rate I think, regardless of Cooper's numbers, his impact is obvious and I don't really care what it takes to keep him. The Cowboys are just going to have to continue to draft well to pick up any slack.

He is going to be very expensive.

Cooper has all the leverage.

He was the supposed solution to our woes last year, as demonstrated by many of the posts in this thread.

He already has 14mil coming this year. He's not hurting for money.

Jerry and Stephen have spent the last 6 months saying what a great "first round pick" Cooper was. They'll look like fools if they gave up a first round pick only to have to franchise Cooper from 2020 on. So they will pay. And pay through the nose. And Cooper's agent has got to know this. He'll turn the screws on Jerry for an obscene contract.

They took Cooper's extension for granted when they traded a 1st for him. Now they're going to pay for that miscalculation.

I really don't care what the player makes. Just make it work today without sacrificing tomorrow. How hard can it be:)

Went all in on Cooper when they should've kept the 1st and drafted N'Keal Harry and signed Golden Tate. Getting those two+extra cap room >>>> Cooper.

I don't suppose you posted this grand plan on the day of the Cooper trade. :muttley:

Taking Harry with a top 15 pick, which is where Dallas would've been drafting had they not traded for Cooper, would've been a bit of a reach.

Idk y ppl think having cap space equals more wins lol. Cap space is useless if you dont sign the right players. Just look at the Knicks in basketball

Elliott goes if it comes down to Lord Byron vs him. RB's are too plentiful and that's the easiest position to transition in from college.

However, I think this brain trust is still thinking triplets so I think all 3 are extended and then it becomes questionable what they can do about critical pieces of the D.
If we become that heavily invested in our offense and it’s still bottom tier statistically ( currently 22nd) while letting key defensive players go... we are doomed.

We can’t keep all 3 ( Tripletts) on offense unless they’re enough to carry a lesser defense.

Exactly. That is why draft picks are so valuable. Sure we have Amari Cooper. But now he's one more position we have to pay top dollar immediately or we lose him.

This aspect of team building in the cap era is something the Jones boys have never really grasped.
Yea, we should have kept Dez for 2018. We didn’t use that Cap savings anyway. Then we could have drafted his replacement and had 4 or 5 more years. And been able to sign Elliott next year.

Getting Cooper after the fact to save the season and Daks career will come at a hefty price.

Cooper might be in a league of his own. He turned a 3-4 team into a division winner and saved a QB’s career. I’d give him Daks contract and give Daks his.
He’s going to have to do a lot more then lead the league in drops to get in a league of his own. I personally don think he’ll ever be a top 5 receiver consistently but we’ll see, hopefully I’m wrong. Right now we only have a very small sample size from his time with the Cowboys.

We know what we are without him. That should be enough.

Are we going to pay Dak and then not surround him? I think we know how that will end. That’s why the Dak contract is so critical.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's waiting for Julio's deal, he's expected to get $20 million/yr and that only helps Coop's side. Coop's going to get $18-$20/year, possibly more if a new deal isn't done until next season.

Sorry but Cooper isn’t in the same league as Jones and shouldn’t be making the same amount of money as he is if this article has any merit to it, which it may not, but interesting theory.

Jones isn't in the same league as he used to be either. In the NFL you pay players for who they are now, not who they used to be if you want to remain competitive. Jones is still really good but it's all downhill from here. I'd take a 24 year old Cooper over a 30 year old Jones.

Besides that reason, Cooper will unfortunately get paid more than he normally would because we traded a first rounder for him. Cooper doesn't have to be reasonable. Similar to the Mack deal, but to a lesser extent, the Cowboys invested in him, and they didn't do it for a partial season. Cooper knows this and will extort what he wants from the Cowboys.

All I’m saying as at some point we are going to have to let some of these bigger named players walk. I’m not in favor of this but perhaps it would be more economical to draft a WR in the first next year, franchise Cooper and get Zeke on the 5th year. See where we can go from there (make sure they both stay healthy, consistent and out of trouble).
