I completely forgot Switzer. There was also Lucky. And Austin. A guy or two who *didn't* make the team too.

They've been working that "web back" for years. Pollard is the most legitimate back of them all. I'd like to see his receiving tape. Reported to have good hands for all the short stuff on the move, and then it's YAC. I hope we're throwing to all our guys on the move more often.
He was a 4th round pick. That's where you take guys like him. I'd have been OK w/ Esco in the 4th!!!!!!

If someone offered two firsts, or more, I'd trade him. Jerry is the only GM who would make such an offer for him, though.

Being serious, who would you replace Zeke with?

If elite RBs were easy to replace, every team would have one.

Zeke is a wrecking ball and worthy of his pre- draft hype but the RB position in this team is not the strength. That lies with the horses in front of them on the line.

I’m not saying zeke can easily be replaced and not promoting it but I’m willing to bet a good chunk of his production can be.

What I would miss most is his blocking and blitz pick up but good rbs can be had in the draft on a regular basis

Having said that I think that with the right coordinator we can get even more from zeke

I think or hope anyway that a good chunk of our offensive woes left last year in Linehan

Lastly I’ll say that with zeke it appears you are going to get extra baggage whether warranted or not his propensity for the negative spotlight is real and I ? How long and how much you want to invest in it. Just something to ponder

Unpopular decision - I'm not extending any players until after the season.

Why?

I'm sweating the coaching staffs contracts this year and appointing a new GM and HC in January.

Its up to the incoming GM and HC to decide what players they want to keep.

Do you think it's merely coincidence that the Cowboys went from Demarco Murray leading the league in rushing with over 1,800 yards in 2014, to Darren McFadden resuscitating his career and going over 1,000 yards in 2015 to Elliott leading the league in rushing for every full season he's played?

I don't.

I don't.

Don't forget Morris averaging 4.8 yards per carry in 2017.

Another excellent point, thanks!

It's not to undermine how good of a player Zeke is, he's clearly among the best in the league. But when an engine can consistently produce top running games, year after year, it clearly shows that running backs can and have been replaced. This line and offense makes the running backs, not the other way around.

It's not production replacement that's the problem. Zeke has the ability to get the tough yards, to get positive yards when there's nothing there. That is a very rare trait for a RB, and that is what's hard to replace. And add to the fact that other team's are afraid of him, and game plan to stop him, which helps open up other stuff.

I don't like Zeke's off field crapp either, BTW.

And despite the high YPC, we were not the same w/ Morris.

No, Morris is who he is. The point is that he also put up good numbers while he was here, further illustrating a pattern of success for multiple running backs.

I get that and again i'm not lobbying for his replacement. I'm just being somewhat a devils advocate. And is he worth taking that risk of the most expensive RB contract in league history or do you get some capital for him? I'm ok if they do i'm OK if they don't but I certainly wish he'd use his head a bit more. I still say though with all of his football gifts the strength of this team is the line.

It is, and no RB can do it w/o help.

I would let him play out his 5 years, then possibly franchise him for 1 or 2 years if he insists on a maxed out deal.

We have some very tough decisions to make coming up. You simply cannot pay everyone. Trying to leads to mediocrity.

I’d fire Jerry as GM and Stephen as VP.

I’d name Aikman VP and Garrett GM. Then let them run Cowboys Football naming their own HC and staff.

Although I’d hope this would be a popular decision for most much to my recent surprise there are some supporters for Jethro and Son.
I agree with firing JJ as GM. I like the work Stephen and McKlay have done this decade with the draft, personal, and mananging the salary cap. Explain to me why you want Garrett as GM???? If he was on any other team in the NFL he would either be out of the league or an assistant.

Because it appears Garrett has an eye for talent. He just doesn’t appear to know how to fully develop it once he gets them.

McClay has done a fine job finding guys in Jason’s vision of what he wants.

I’m not impressed with Cheapskate Son. So far his RB and WR by Committee have been disasters.

It was at this point in your post that I made one of those derisive chuckles/smirk/snort kind of, "I don't come within a galaxy of agreeing with this comment," retorts.

Needless to say I didn't read the rest.

You have a point, K. Superman with a bad back is Mediocreman.
And you blokes feel confident other teams would want an expensive player with a back issues?
You really think there are other teams out there with idiots such as Jerry?
