18 games means almost every NFL record would be broken. I can see someone getting 2300 yards rushing, 2000 yards receiving, 60 passing TDs, 6000 yards passing, 25 sacks, etc...

Jim Brown set the single season rushing mark in 12 games. Simpson broke it in 14 games. Dickerson broke it in 16 games.

Nothing new here.

I’ll admit part of the reason I hate expanding the season is how it will screw with stats.

They've done it before, and it already has....again, nothing new here.

Prove it? Look at history. As far as Upshaw, what did he do? Lead a unsuccessful strike in 87? They didn't get fa until they disbanded the union and players filed lawsuits on their own vs the league. His 87 strike he lead was embarrassing.

The last time, lead by Smith, nothing changed. It won't change this time.

“You’ve got to you got to remember the time were win, being locked out. Guys’ contracts were up. Unrestricted free agents were panicked. This is their time to hit. They’re calling you. As you’re negotiating, you’re just not negotiating with the owners. You negotiate with those guys and their agents who are calling saying, ‘When is this deal gong to be done? We’ve got to get this done. I’ve got to get back playing. How much time am I going to be out?’

Jeff Saturday quote from last cba negotiations. This was after the nflpa warned them that this could happen. And start watching their money a few years before the lockout.

Oh, you have it crystal clear...the world is square and when the big bad wolf huffs and puffs you go flying off it...

The CFL plays an 18 game schedule and has for years. Players survive.

What they do have is a shorter preseason (3 games) and 2 bye weeks.
I love the cfl. If the NFL has the same rules, same everything as the cfl I'd be all for it. The structure of the CFL is far better than the NFL in every single way. The problem is you must be ok with wataching far less talent than the NFL. Injuries will water down the NFL product. The PED pumped NFL player will crumble with an 18 game season over a long career. Careers will be shorter and injuries will mount up.
But then I also think the NFL will saturate the market. It's just too much NFL. They have already lost me but like I said I know I'm in the minority. All I watch now are the cowboys and my fantasy stats on my phone.

they have enough games now they don't need 18 its great the way it is if they are not careful they will end up with to many games and their attendance will suffer like baseball is now

Yes, it's been clear. The NFL union is weak, that's not news if you've paid attention over the past 40 years.

Like I said, 2 games will be the most they'll tuff it out for, then they'll cave like they always do. I don't think the NFL will get a 18 game schedule, 17 at best but I don't even think that will happen. I think the players will get a bump in money as they should. Probably some changes in the drug policy and discipline policies.

How is saying business owners are supposed to make more than their employees acting like nothing matters, and what are you talking with the comment about acting like there is a role for value?

sorry, but I dont buy that crippled for most players. For some? Yes.... but I dont see Aikman is crippled, Emmitt, Stee Young..... look at all those analysts that player for 10-15 years.. they are all living life. Do they have aches and pains? Probably, but that is just the way it goes if you play football. All of these guys know the risks today, and if they chose to play... thats on them. They no the risks and the rewards, and they chose the rewards. Dont expect me to sit back and cringe when I see a player get lit up in a game. I dont ever want to see someone get hurt, but I dont lose any sleep over the guy that broke his ankle in a game. Im so sick and tired of hearing about player safety. NASCAR drivers die, its part of it, and the ones that cant handle that risk opt out. MMA fighters get their bell rung and they know it, and they do it. Life has risks. Some acceot the risks, others do not. Dont come back 10 years later about your poor health after you played 15 years in the NFL. Sorry, Im just a consumer of NFL football. I dont want these guys to be hurt, suffer long term injuries.. but I dont lose anymore sleep over their issues than they do over mine. Add 2 more games and I will be on ehappy SOB. I dont give a **** about how much mor emoney they do or do not make or if the owners are taking advantage. NFL... the more the better!

Hey, at least Im honest...lol

Always respect honest! I hear what you are saying and my post wasn't a rant on player safety or anything like that - it was more from a "realism" standpoint. You can't expect players under a system that was one way, paying $X, to just accept 2 more regular season games of wear and tear. Would you work 15% more with the increased risks involved for the same money? I love watching football too, regular season better than pre-season. SOOOO, in order to incent the players to accept that, up the roster, up the game day roster, up the practice squad so if there are injuries you have a guy familiar with your system ready to go.......split the financial reward in a win/win manner. You can't just force 18 games, has to be compensation. If guys become specialists, maybe they can play a year or two more. If you can carry more veterans as backups for your oline - without crippling your cap - that benefits players both in terms of numbers of guys that have jobs, and how long some might get to play (even as a guy that sits on bench as an emergency replacement 15 out of 18 weeks. I want 2 more regular season games, and would be willing to give up 2 pre-season games, and in order to make that a realistic or acceptable change to players - those were my suggestions.

And, ask Aikman and Emmitt about their bodies. How many concussions has he had?

Hell, I tore my left ACL twice during high-school, and have played sports and exercised for decades after - I did that for no money and for love of sports. BUT, there is a physical long-term price to pay. If you can reduce the wear, and provide some long-term assistance for those seriously injured/crippled - then it is fair and you can create win/win scenario - for all involved....owners/league/players/fans.......

Agreed. I think stats are a factor (probably not the biggest) in the debate of increasing regular season for some folks, fans and ex-players and others.
They should re-do "record" stats for different lengths of seasons
If they switch to 18 games - freeze stats prior to that, and then start stats "since 18 game season implemented"....

16 games is fine. Why do they have to constantly try change this game?

The NFL claims to care about player safety and then they push for 18 games, LOL.

It's about the money and it always has been. They care about player safety insofar as it saves them from CTE lawsuits.

That's the best reason to be against it.

No.
I had an idea when I first heard this several years ago. Expand the season to 18 games, expand the rosters, however each player can only play in 16 games. Keeps the records, player safety remains the same, maybe improves , but Adds a bit of strategy as to when to sit your quarterback...etc. thoughts?

The owners are greedy souls and so is the NFL hierarchy in general. The objection lies solely with the players and the NFL Players Union. They already have to deal with more than enough injuries as it is. The NFL is far more concerned with wealth than the players' health and general well being.

I certainly can't say as I blame the players and their reps for looking out for their own physical and mental well being. It's a long season, as it is already. Lingering injuries are constantly threatening the limbs, lives and brains of too many players. Four preseason and 16 regular season games are enough.

Why shouldn’t the owners, or the MFL be greedy? Isn’t that kind of what business is? Nobody is forcing these players to play. Nobody is forcing them to accept scholarships and get educations and then move to the next level. That is completely their choice.

As do i. I couldn't quite put my hoof on it, but I really like the structure of the CFL. All penalties in the CFL are reviewable. The NFL just now is realising that this is a good idea. The play is fun, but not the best talent usually. Still, some of the teams could probably beat the Cardinals, Raiders, Giants, and/or Bills.
