Lots of debate on both players. With the draft and FA, Dallas is stacked on the DL. It will be a struggle to make the final roster. In my opinion Crawford and Taco are nearly the same player, meaning a DE with some ability to play inside. Crawford seems to have made the full conversion to DE.

We know what Crawford is at this point. Try hard guy, limited production, decent run stopper, below average pass rusher, good leader, injury prone...

We really don't know what Taco is. Attitude issues, flashes real ability, injury prone, Social Media headache, first rounder that was supposed to take a couple years, then ???...

I doubt Crawford makes the roster given all the depth but if he does doesn't he hurt Taco's development? With Quinn on a 1 year deal and Gregory being a question mark, isn't this the year to see what we have in Taco. Get him snaps at DE and DT and see what we have.

I vote for Taco over Crawford and it is not even a close decision. What do you all think?

we don't have to decide now. but wait until camp. I would say Crawford, since we have many like him on the roster and his salary is too high. time to move on. Taco is a first round pick. got off on the wrong foot, so we should give him another chance specially since Quinn is older, others are unknown and one of the others is in perpetual suspension mode.

That’s what camp and preseason is for. Only an idiot would make such a decision now. Maybe you keep both; maybe you release both. You keep the best performers leading up to game 1.

First off, Taco is a joke. The guy hasn't even proven he can play in this league. He doesnt even compare to Crawford, sadly.

Crawford blows him away at this point in every way.

THAT being said, Crawford isn't cheap. Personally I would have cut Crawford, traded Soft Taco, and signed the Bucs DT to a one or two year deal depending on how much he was asking.

Hyder can probably do what Charlton does. Maybe Jackson, as a rookie, could be just as effective. We have redundant players at DE.

Yep.

DE - Lawrence, Hyder
3T - McCoy, Hill
1T - Woods, Collins
DE - Quinn, Armstrong

Jackson is the 5th DE, Covington is the 5th DT. That would have given us one of the better and deeper DLs in the NFL.

Crawford's been a durable, consistent player for the last 5 years. Taco has had about 2 or 3 good games total in his career.

I think they are both locks to make the team. Depending on how camp goes Taco could be traded considering we have verified interest during the draft. Crawford could also be trade bait. Both have trade value so not expecting them to out right be cut.

Crawford is a solid run stopper. Taco is a pass-rusher. Neither one is solid at the entire position

I must say after my highly scientific poll it would appear that the armchair GMs prefer Crawford. That is a shocker to me because I feel strongly that my choice would be Taco. This saddens me. Contrarian perhaps? I don't know. I just think Crawford is useless at this point and you have to play Taco to see if he has anything.

Dallas isnt thinking long term. Today matters. They will sooner keep both. Carrying useless players is important to this team if a jersey sells or helps with tickets.
That’s just total, and undeniable, bull****.

And still somehow managed 13 sacks when he was rushing the passer. That's versatility, and a plus, not a negative.

My judgement is not reserved.

I knew it on day one, second one, and it's proven more and more true all the time.
From what I've seen, Taco has shown me nothing, and Watt couldn't have done any worse, and might have had a much bigger upside, imo

I understand what you're saying from an upside perspective with the younger play. Taco may have "upside", while Crawford is undoubtedly on the "downside" of his career. But, coming from a staunch Crawford critic, at least that guy works his tail off and doesn't quit or blame anyone else for his failings. He's done everything this team has ever asked of him, while Taco has sulked and been a healthy scratch for attitude issues.

I think it's undeniable that Watt is and would have been better. People can talk about "3-4 linebacker" all they want, while their team employs 235 lb Randy Gregory (when he's not suspended).

TJ Watt can rush the freakin' passer, whatever scheme you put him in. Meanwhile, we have Taco Charlton, Mr. "Healthy Scratch".

Exactly, right now you are looking at Kerry Hyder, Daniel Wise, Joe Jackson, Jalen Jelks and maybe Daniel Ross competing for the 10th roster spot on the DL.

We may have (and likely will have) injuries that open up more spots but that is months away.

The old Taco/TJ Watt debate has proven to be one-sided and a non-debate. Although if there is a fair criticism of our FO/coaches, sometimes they can get too hung up on prototypes and there's no guarantee Watt would have the same success in our scheme. I don't know how we would utilize him. Although even as a PT pass-rusher (he's much more than that obviously, I'm just guessing what his role would have been here starting out) he would have given some juice to our D.

That said, even if you think Crawford isn't worth his salary or cap hit, he's multitudes better than Taco so far and anyone who watches the film can see that.

The only caveat is that DL sometimes take time to develop, especially DE. It would be foolish to just give up on the guy without giving him a third training camp and preseason to see if there is any evidence of turning a corner.
