precisely to the exact, isn't an understatement,,, er,,,to yer' statementIt goes back to the 70s with George Allen/Tom Landry. When I was a kid this was THE NFL rivalry.
Dude,Man you really should spend a couple of hours wandering around down in the seldom venturedi was born in 86 so I have no memory of the Commanders hay day in the late 80s/early 90s.
They’ve never been good the same year as Dallas has that I remember. Always a 4-6 seed on the few years they did get in.
So I have no hatred towards them. Philly and the Giants on the other hand are a different story. As are GB and SF from the time in the 90s and Rodgers this decade.
Another team who I don’t have any care towards are the Steelers. The one meaningful game the two teams have played I remember was a 2nd half route in SB XXX
Still a rival. Even in recent years when they didn't have good teams, the Commanders played over their heads against us. That's one of the things that make rivalries great.
During the Romo era for example, the offense was superior to the defense. But that script was flipped in games against the Skins, who always gave Romo fits and our defense usually had to save the day.

Lot of that hate word floating around this thread.I do feel for you youngins because you missed one of the great rivalries in NFL history. And it wasn't just on the field, George Allen was the only HC to ever get in Landry's head. He'd stand across the field and grin at Tom, licking his hands and rubbing them together and Landry would just give him the stare and look away. But you could tell he knew Allen was looking at him.
Landry was convinced that Allen had spies and asked Schramm to buy out the hotel with rooms next to the practice field and had heard, probably started by Allen, that one of their scouts was going to climb one of the trees next to the field and Landry had them cut it down. That scout was an ex out of shape OL that weighed 300lbs! He couldn't step up on a curb much less climb a tree.
There's nothing like that today, PHL is a pain but nothing like the Skins were with Theismann, Riggins and Talbert, the DL that slugged Staubach.
The only other rivalry that came close for me was KC-OAK with Madden and Stram but that one was on the field but it would get nasty. There were some similarities with the Boys-Skins in that Stram was the sharp dresser, like Landry, for a football coach and Madden always looked like he slept in his clothes and Allen just dressed like a football coach. There were many contrasts in both rivalries.
The Cowboys-Commanders are still my highlight games of the season and I wish they played every TDay. It was always more special when they squared off on TDay.

Someone want to explain why Newman wasn't covering Moss?I'm 31. The only time I have ever considered the Commanders to be a "rival" of any sort was in the 2005 season, when they swept Dallas (one of those games being the horrific Monday Night Triplets Ring of Honor game where they stunned the Cowboys 14-13 on two deep Santana Moss bombs.)
Other than that, they have been utterly irrelevant. I have usually considered the Giants to be the Cowboys' true rival, during the years of 2006-2016.

It was during the Buddy Ryan years that the Eagles rivalry really went up to my most hated teams list. It's interesting the difference a generation makes. As a kid in the 70s the two teams I hated most were Washington and Pittsburgh.
The Eagles, Niners, and Giants joined the list later.
I never thought much of the Giants until the mid 80's. Before that the Giants weren't even worth my trouble. lolThe skins have always been a rival, but I considered the eagles more of one in the 2000s due to the lopsided beat downs we took early in McNabbs career. At one point it was nice knowing the skins were a free win as we had held like 8 or 9 consecutive wins against them and I hoped that never ended.
Then the Giants became a rival when we gave away our game, leading to their Super Bowl run...
