I personally think he's made great progress for a guy who never played a down of college football. Solid hands and excellent size who has gotten much better at blocking which was a weakness early on.
Agreed. It would be crazy to cut him right now after Rico has shown improvement. Cowboys need to give him one more year to continue to develop and produce on the field. Size with ability does matter.

Rico would need 6 promotions to become a water boy.

Rico and Beasley are two peas in a pod when it comes to running their mouths. We should give Rico away to Buffalo for free where they can work on their raps together. The guy is hack in both the football and rapping world.

If someone is "half as good as Witten" that would mean around 550 career receptions, five or six probowls, and one first team all pro.

Half of Witten is still a heck of a contributor.

Correct.

Out of those 7 targets where Rico only caught 3, 3 of those incompletions were totally Dak's fault!

Had Dak thrown Rico the ball accurately, Rico would have ended up with 6 out of 7 catches thrown to him, along with 2 TDs. EVERYONE critizing Rico would be singing a different tune right now. Too bad they can't be honest with what the tape shows.

You’re right, 6 catches for 2 touchdowns in 3 years and everybody would be signing a different tune.

Blake Jarwin is a far better athlete than Rico. And it’s obvious from watching them play.

Jason Witten is one of the 3 best tight ends, to
ever play the game.

That’s why Rico rides the pine. Not because of favoritism.

Why do you keep saying 3 years? We're talking about plays based for 2018 only. No way is Schultz a better blocker than Rico. I would throw Jarwin in as well. I remember seeing Rico cave in the whole left side at the goal line where Dak was able to walk in for a TD. Never saw Jarwin or Schultz do that. Neither Swaim...but he's no longer here, so he doesn't matter. I remember clearly seeing Jarwin and Schultz miss blocks during running plays. No argument with Jarwin being a much better pass catcher and route runner though. As for Witten, time will tell what he does this year or next if he decides to stay. Witten wasn't looking too good the last time he played in 2017.

I keep saying 3 years because he has been in the league 3 years.

It is not very creative when you bring in rico only to block. Teams pick up on that when Rico was never used as passing threat.

We have guys who have played and contributed who fans want to get rid of yesterday, but they're willing to give Rico a decade to fulfill their fantasies.

He played 146 snaps in 2018 and saw 7 targets? They need to get him a little more involved in the passing game.

I think you're reading into it. I haven't seen any indication that Gathers isn't working to get better the last couple of seasons. Talk isn't a big thing unless that's all it is. A lot of players are egotistical and believe they are the best there is. That can be a form of motivation for them.

Like I said, I'll see what materializes on the field. If he can't get it figured out this year, he's gone. However, it's in our best interest for the mental side to fall into place for him and him to become the beast he thinks that he is.

Obviously I am reading into what he's said, because that's what we're talking about. It's always possible that someone who talks like an entitled jerkoff is in fact the hardest working guy in the world. But that's not how I bet.
I've been for giving his this year as well. He was a project. He's only accrued 2 seasons. If we weren't planning on giving a 6th round pick who didn't play college ball his third year to develop, we shouldn't have taken him.
In the NFL, talk is all Rico has. He's never been more than a bubble roster player. Yet he talks like he deserves so much more. Rico copes with the mismatch between self image and reality with resentment. Perhaps that will spur him to greatness. But I doubt it.

Not crazy, because we have lots of players we want to keep, and they can't all stay. DEs and WRs on the bubble who I'd rather keep than Rico.

Talking about giving Rico another year as an isolated idea, sure, but who do I have to cut to make that happen?
