I know where you're going with that and if I saw any evidence I would agree, but later last season Jarwin and Schultz improved and were just better. Gathers doesn't do himself any favors.
The guy literally averaged 9 snaps a game. And 75% of them are running plays what would you like him to do? lol. He was targeted 7 times all year.

Railroaded him? Come on man. He clearly wasn’t ready to play the first couple of years.

He played well in pre season, late in games, against defenders who aren’t even in the league.

Even so, saying he is “as good as” Jarwin or Schultz isn’t saying anything either. The reality is those two players are also JAGS at best right now. They have also done basically nothing in the league. Neither one deserves to start over Witten.

I agree that Witten shouldn’t be playing 90%+ of the snaps anymore. But the idea that Rico is some stud player who is being held back for reasons other than football? I haven’t seen it.

We should be drafting a real tight end next off-season in the top 3 rounds. Somebody with some real talent. So we aren’t trying to rely on late round projects like Jarwin, Schultz and Rico to be the future of the position.
Witten shouldn't even be on the team

Rico perfectly illustrates what it takes to be a receiver on these Dallas Cowboys. Rico is a very athletic guy with the size and speed to be a pro. Unfortunately though, he can't get ten yards of separation on every play or catch everything that he can get a fingertip on which is what it takes to be successful on this team.

Off the top of my head I can only remember three attempts to Rico. All of them were made far more difficult than they needed to be by an inaccurate pass.

I would like him to not get arrested for drug possession, not get injured, not get suspended for drug use and not put his focus on his rap game.
But that's just me. I always found him intriguing because of his size and athleticism, but his head ain't in the game.

Not crazy, because we have lots of players we want to keep, and they can't all stay. DEs and WRs on the bubble who I'd rather keep than Rico.

Talking about giving Rico another year as an isolated idea, sure, but who do I have to cut to make that happen?

how about La'el ?

Rico is a better pass blocker - sad but true

La'el is a better blocker than Rico, but he costs lots lots more. I think we should move on to Williams at RT and McGovern at LG if they seem ready for it. It's complicated by the likely good comp pick we'll get for Collins if we let him go next year, and it's not clear that we can get as good a pick by trading him this year. But if we can, I'd move on.

Play at the goalline that was thrown high and hard but should have been right in the numbers.

Medium deep completion that wide open Rico had to stop and wait for allowing the DB to get back in the play. Should have been an easy td.

Crucial play opening drive of the second half of the Rams PO game. Thrown tight to Rico's weak side shoulder instead of off a bit. Incomplete. Punt.

All facts Picard.

I was facepalming at the rest of your post, which was idiotic. The nonsense about players needing 10 yards of seperation, etc. chief

Any insinuation that Dak is the reason Rico Gathers, a failed college basketball player, hasn’t developed into a quality professional football player, is idiotic. Any insinuation that the QB is the reason that Rico couldn’t beat our world beaters like Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz, is idiotic.

Last I checked, the 4 different tight ends, that have beaten Rico out, during his time with the team, have all had the same
QB.

His drug possession and suspension will be legal next year. He wasn't actually injured it was a stash job for kellen moore. And he should focus on his rap game when the staff hasn't given him a shot when he's looked like the most dynamic thing at TE since forever.

If Rico was a special player denied opportunity, someone would come knocking for him. He remains a cowboy project and legend in his own mind.

considering the team has never made him available to be poached off the PS or made a free agent I don't see how you can make that determination. I feel like you are a legend in your own mind, making up nonsense.

You literally have no idea what your talking about. Practice squad players are free agents. They can sign anywhere at any time. . Nobody is interested in Rico other than us.

Bottom line is he's just simply not good enough. I really don't the obsession some have, he's not an NFL caliber player.
