It's tough to rate Cooper at present. After a great start, he had a down year, and was having another when we traded for him. Was it all on Carr? I have no idea. Not sure exactly what went down in OAK.

So, at present it's hard for me to put him in the top 12, but I'm actually expecting that to change quickly.

As long as he can draw doubles and open up others for gains, win some single covers and make us a better team, I don't care where he ranks. He's a Cowboy!

Cooper , once he got to Dallas, was easily a top 5 WR last year. The question is not his talent or what he's worth per year on the open market. The issue is how much the cowboys as constructed and coached can afford to invest in one single WR.

There are some similarities but two differences I'd point to is Thomas has much better hands or concentration and that Cooper doesnt use his size like Thomas does. Thomas is way above average after the catch, but give me Cooper.

Yeah Thomas has those vice mitts, Amaris hands looked pretty spectacular last yr. especially considering his previous drop issues

I'd say Adams in Green Bay is better. But it's probably because he has Rodgers is growing him the ball.
but Dak has more come back wins in the past three year and he is top 5 in throws of 16+ yards and deep throws and he has more wins than Rodgers in past three years :muttley:

I can't name 12 WRs that will have a better season than Amari Cooper. If he's aiming for 2000 yards, I can't even name one.
That statement was a contradiction to the statement he made earlier. He said "Give me 8 to 10 touches a game and I'll catch 7 to 9 and help my team win". Not a direct quote, I'm just giving you guys the contents of what I read. 2000 that is not unless they are long ones.

He is in that top 12-ish area. It is not really an outrage if he is ranked just outside of that.

I would rank these players ahead of him. But mainly because he needs to have another great season to elevate himself.

Julio Jones
A.J. Green
Odell Beckham
Davante Adams
DeAndre Hopkins
Tyreek Hill
Keenan Allen
Stefon Diggs
Adam Thielen
Michael Thomas
Antonio Brown
Mike Evans
Half of those guys won't out-produce Cooper this year if all our healthy.
Guys 30+ are NOT better than Cooper right now.
They just aren't.
AJ Green has had 1700 yards in TWO seasons.

Fans love to crown dudes for past work.

Cooper was a top 5 guy from day he set foot in DAL til end of season.
He will be a top10 rated WR this year in fantasy drafts.
He is still an ascending player at <25.
If you had a dispersal draft maybe 5-6 WR would go before him. MAYBE.

Julio Jones -- Caught only 62% of his targets last year which was bad. But still a top 5 producer so he stays above AC.
A.J. Green --1700 yards total receiving prior two seasons and he is 30. Below.
Odell Beckham -- More skilled than anyone but less size and health. Hasn't been a pro bowler in past 2 seasons. Above in name only at this point.
Davante Adams -- big, good WR but has one 1000 yard season so no.
DeAndre Hopkins -- Yes
Tyreek Hill -- Speediest guy out there but off-field stuff galore. No. Can't take him above AC.
Keenan Allen --very underrated guy. fair to be above.
Stefon Diggs -- one - 1000 yard season so no.
Adam Thielen -- fair to be above but he's 4 years older
Michael Thomas -- yes
Antonio Brown -- gotta say no. AB caught a terrible % of passes aimed his way last year. He's been prolific but in a new offense with lesser QB at his age, I say no.
Mike Evans -- yes above.

Let's see:

Not top 12 in receptions, yards, TDs, yards per reception, or any other meaningful stat.
Well, this should mean he shouldn't be paid as a top 12 receiver?

My WR rankings are:

Tier 1:
Julio
Beckham
Hopkins
Evans

Tier 2:
Brown
Green
Thomas
TyFreak

and then Coop's on tier 3. The next group of guys are all on about his level: JuJu, Keenan Allen, Brandin Cooks, etc, but I wouldn't say any of them all clear-cut better than Coop.

So what's that, 8 players that are clearly better than him? You can argue the rest however, but I think Amari is going to land somewhere in the top 12 for sure.

It is a crime that you have AB in tier 2. Stop it.

How do his numbers compare solely for the time period after he arrived in Dallas?

NFL rank (among WR) TD catches, 2015-18
ranked by most TD scored from outside red zone / ranking from inside red zone
Brown 1st / 2nd
Hopkins 2nd / 3rd
Cooks 2nd / 20th
Cooper 2nd / 54th
Hill 2nd / 54th
Stills 2nd / 54th

We're going into another season without an established red zone threat.

A good QB can make a receiver look better IE Romo and Robinson, Romo and Dez. We have the opposite issue in Dallas and need our skill players to prop up the would be QB. Since Dak has started every receivers yards per catch have gone down, every year. Outside of coopers 2 long catch and run touchdowns his numbers here were just ok. The last 3 games averaging 4 catches for 26 yards each. Maybe Moores offense will open things up, who knows. But cooper will get plenty of opportunity to use his madden video game moves on defenders and make Dak look like a real QB.

Until he can prove more consistency and not disappear in games, he will not be considered among the best in the NFL. He also had a spotty history in OAK with drops.

I like Cooper and I liked the trade for him; however, for some they were so bad at WR that getting a good one made them think he was great. He has the potential to be great because he showed that at Bama but has yet to show that in the NFL.
