Randy Gregory, David Irving could return to the Dallas Cowboys in 2019

*(Folks, read all of this one...)

The Dallas Cowboys defense could have the services of both Randy Gregory and David Irving this upcoming season. Here’s how …

In late February, news broke that Dallas Cowboys‘ defensive end Randy Gregory had been suspended again for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Before the Cowboys’ fanbase could get over the shock of Gregory, it was announced that defensive tackle David Irving was also suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse program just two days later...

In an interview that appeared on the Dallas Cowboys Official YouTube Page, Jones was asked about Robert Quinn and what the veteran defensive end brings to the field following the offseason trade that brought him to Dallas. The Cowboys executive went on to talk about the status of both Gregory and Irving...

“Well, I think obviously defensive line with our challenges we’ve had with Randy. Certainly, I think Randy’s done, you know is back on it and really doing a great job of getting himself in a position where hopefully he can get back at some point and help us out. But with that unknown being there, and of course having the same situation with David Irving … we really felt like we needed to shore that up.”...

For the rest of the puzzle, I will lean on Dan Graziano, an ESPN Staff Writer. In May, Graziano wrote an article titled NFL, NFLPA announcement to mental health initiative. Slater’s reports from her internal interviews with Jason Garrett and Stephen Jones are more evidence. I believe both are laying the groundwork for a potential new marijuana policy.

The Cowboys front office has a long history of looking at all factors carefully before parting ways with player assets. One of the critical problems that fans don’t consider enough is mental health in players.

For example, during the early nineties when Cowboy fans where celebrating defensive end Charles Haley‘s success on the field, owner and general manager Jerry Jones was dealing with a bi-polar player off-the-field. In my belief, unless people experience mental issues themselves or are close to someone who does, it is almost impossible to understand...

Does this sound like someone who’s going to be playing for the Cowboys or any NFL team this season? Irving is the spokesperson for the US weed channel.

No and No. I understand the issue with mental health and both need to seek help. I also understand this is a football team and we have to have players we can count on. Cowboys can't continue to see guys getting suspended putting the entire team fortunes on the line as they are then forced to find replacement players. Getting a 2nd chance I get but this non sense of same thing over and over with the same players has to stop.

Garrett was so pissed at Irving he told him to go ahead and smoke pot the team doesn’t need him. I’m sure Garrett will welcome back Irving with a big grin and open arms and praise him for his outstanding work with the US Weed Channel.

Irving pretty much blackballed himself from ever playing in the league again talking about the NFL’s protocol for injuries. Can’t imagine the league was thrilled with some of his comments.

Irving is an egotistical moron. We don't need him.
why? Because he said F you to the NFL's moronic pot policy? Maybe he just got sick of that crap. I never heard anything negative about him on the field, with his team, coaches... and when he played, we all know he was a beast.

Could just imagine how many people on this forum would have been saying cut Hayley and Irvin... both those idiots dont think about the team and are always distractions. Get rid of them, we can win without them.....lol
Irvin and his onfield theatrics need to go. Really>??? do you need to emphatically signal 1st down everytime you catch the ball...... freaking idiot....bahahahhaahhahahahaahha

Booger has never shied away from mental issues, he brought Spellman in and there were questions about McClain's mental state.

Ya know, Booger reminds me of the Chris Cooper character in "Seabiscuit", "just because he's broken you don't throw him away".

I have often suspected it's not just the bargain aspect of getting players like that because he's done that too many times. There's something in his background, some event or person, that made him that person that tries to fix birds with broken wings. And he won't give up easily, they can backslide and he'll still stand by them. It's a quality we complain about in an owner but an admirable one in a man.
I think the humanitarian angle is BS.

It’s about taking a shortcut for more Elite talent most teams aren’t willing to take on mostly because of the PR nightmare.

But when you have an owner who’s wearing all the hats he’s not accountable to anyone and can take it on. It’s exactly like Jerry said from the beginning why him being the GM is an advantage in his mind. He’s in a position to take risk others wouldn’t.

I don’t know much about weed (don’t smoke it), but if a player were to smoke a couple of joints on game day, wouldn’t that be equivalent to playing under the influence and therefore affect his performance? I can’t imagine a player playing while high being prepared mentally and physically to play the game at a high level.
who said these guys were smoking blunts on game day?

he maybe a stud....but if he is not on the field. that doesn't help. if he is going to do something stupid. then that's not going to help....and we have Hill, Collins and Woods that are more than adequate...… Irving never blew me away anyway.....but seemingly he has you blown away...

Problem is that if they let him in without changing the weed rules then he will be right back out again. But I would still take him on game day. He is a game wrecker.
