Great question. I would fire JG and promote Marinelli to head coach. He already has a 0-16 season on his resume. I would then sign Jamarcus Russell to be the starting QB. This elite head coach/QB tank combination would ensure the 1st pick in the 2021 draft.

No guarantee Lawrence will be as good as you think (there are more Blaine Gabbart’s than Pat Mahomes’)
Super Bowls aren’t as easy to win as you make them out to be, even with great talent.
NFL won’t allow blatantly tanking a season
Even if they did, teaching a team it’s okay to be quitters does not help a team become a winner.

I’m not so sure that Pat Mahomes is Pat Mahomes without Andy Reid coaching him. So many factors go into a guy being great.

Mahomes would be a good player just about anywhere... but Andy made him an MVP.

While Lawrence would be nice, Dallas has a fine QB right now. You have to be blind to not see this roster is stacked. Only coaching holds them back. Not the QB.

Then why is it ok in the NBA? NBA teams tank all the time. In the NBA there is no guarantee to land the 1st pick since it's a lottery. In the NFL tanking will directly lead to the 1st pick in the draft.

Since Goodell has the power, what do you think he'd do a team purposefully losing? Think he'd let them draft that QB? And what about those fans buying tickets during that tanking season, think they'd be happy? How about fans that are in their last season? Think that's how they like to spend their last Cowboys season?

I said just the 2020 season. We will be competing this upcoming 2019 season.

Lawrence is a generational talent. Having him on a rookie deal plus retaining all the young studs we have will ensure a dynasty.

Through the years I have seen a ton of "generational talents" coming into the NFL at quarterback.

The names of some of them were Jeff George, Rick Mirer, Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russell, and Brady Quinn. So let's not start work on Trevor Lawrence's Hall of Fame bust just yet.

It's not going to be blatant and obvious like punting on 1st down every possession. Just start with a proven tank commander as head coach (Marinelli) add an absolute scrub as the starting QB then just play the season out. Maybe throw in some "pulled hamstrings" to some stars here and there. That should be enough to get it done. Definitely not as blatant as the tanking going on in the NBA.

Rookie Andrew Luck led his team to an impressive 11-5 record and a playoff berth. The team finished 2-14 the previous season.

And as a rookie Dak was an even more impressive 13-3. And you were talking about 3 Super Bowls, yet even though Luck is one of the success stories, he hasn’t been to even 1 Super Bowl.

And for every Andrew Luck there are 2-3 Jake Locker’s.

And there is still the fact the Cowboys couldn’t be guaranteed to get Lawrence, and you can’t intentionally tank a whole season ... all of which reinforces the holes in your scenario.

Elway, Manning, Luck(not his fault the Colts haven't surrounded him with enough talent), and Lawrence. Lawrence is on the exclusive guaranteed elite franchise QB list.

Those are all great players but I guy up in NE drafted in the 6th rd 199th pick overall has won more SBs than those four combined. I would consider him elite. It just goes to show that you never know.

Let Dak play out his rookie deal this upcoming season. Then use the franchise tag on him and trade him for draft picks in the 2021 draft. Just tank the entire 2020 season and draft Trevor Lawrence. We will have a dynasty with Lawrence on a cost controlled rookie deal for 5 years. We can also re-sign all of our young studs. I think the Cowboys would win at least 3 Super Bowls if they are fortunate enough to avoid major injuries.
