I just find it ammiusing how so many(especiialy you old timer) think Jerry needs to do thins to win over fans or media. I owned a youth sports team(several) and I did what I want and how I wanted with ZERO thoughts about parents or anyone else. That was small potatoes compared to what Jerry gets to do. Keep thinking Jerry needs to do things a certain way if it makes you sleep better at night.

Fans? Media? Jerry needs to win over himself. :muttley:

His "I'm a football guy, dang it!" ego has been driving his decisions for years. Replacing Jimmy with "we did it our way, baby" Barry, hiring cupcake Wade after the Tuna, sticking with his personal puppet Garrett all of these years = Jerry wanting to be known as "a football guy", not just an owner.

It's never been enough for Jerry to win it all. He wants to be seen as the reason they won, even if it means 23 years (and counting) of not winning it all.

I can see Zeke ending up in ruins, financially and personally, down the road. He likely spends like Brewsters Millions and makes terrible life choices. If he needs a wake up call...he need not look further than Adrian Peterson.

Again, the Bell myth resurfaces.

When the Steelers offered $70 million to Bell in July, it came with a laughably low $10 million guaranteed.

Bell is guaranteed to see $35 million, or two-thirds, of his $52.5 million contract with the Jets.

Guaranteed money is the bottom line — especially for RBs

According to the local Pittsburgh paper, this is what he was offered:

The details of Bell’s four-year, $52.5 million contract with the New York Jets have been reported, and it’s even worse than it first looked.

Bell will earn $26 million in the first two years of the contract, $25 million of it guaranteed, according to NFL Network. There is no other guaranteed money in his deal.
The five-year, $70 million deal the Steelers offered him last summer that he turned down included $33 million in the first two years, $20.5 million of that guaranteed in the first year, as reported by CBS’ Jason LaCanfora.

https://www.post-gazette.com/sports...rse-than-it-first-looked/stories/201903140153

Here's a full breakdown:

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...s-new-star-may-have-lost-by-sitting-out-2018/

Assuming Bell didn't suffer any catastrophic injuries during his time with the Steelers, he likely lost out on roughly $19 million for sitting out the 2018 season. The odd thing about this whole situation is that it was just last year where Bell loudly proclaimed on Twitter that not even $60 million would be enough to get him to play for the Jets.
Now, not only is he taking less, but he's doing that after potentially missing out on $19 million for sitting out 2018. One reason Bell sat out last season is because he was afraid the Steelers were going to overwork him, but who's to say that won't be happening in New York? If it does happen, Bell's body will be getting beat up, but for less money.

Unpopular opinion cause everybody thinks we are run by bafoons. And most the time we are. But in this case Dallas has all the chips. They have 100% of the leverage. Zeke has none ZERO leverage.

He has to report by August 6th or he loses a year towards free agency.

He already has 2 years left on his contract. And Dallas potentially hold his rights for the next 4 years.

So sit out all you want. But he will only be hurting himself and his teammates

But the real problem is what if he does that through the first 3-4 games and you haven’t signed him yet? Suddenly his Agent wants to wait until after the season, and all this offseason waiting may have cost you 5-10 mil a year. Could you imagine if Dak puts up 35 tds this year? He’ll be the highest paid QB in the world
I can’t imagine based on what I’ve seen first 3 years Dak becoming a more Elite passer. But if he did then I’d be ok with paying him accordingly as he wouldn’t need as much Elite supporting cast.

I was asking a question not accusing you of anything. I was an athletic director and head football coach for 13 years. I know a little about what talk about.
Sorry about that... question seemed very loaded. If you were a head football coach of a varsity HS team and ad, you know how it works. You don't coach those teams worrying about what parents want, although you do have an administration to worry about. The exact reason I stopped coaching in hs...well main reason. I didn't want to answer to admin.

The Cooper stuff for the second half last year is a relevant point. As an eagles fan I don’t think that’ll equate into an entire year of elite play, but it’s a starting point for debate.

Zeke needs to wait his turn. He's been getting paid well enough so far. Waiting 1 more year is not going to kill him and actually is precedent to how other greats in the past have done it. Dak, Amari, Jaylon, Byron and a few others are due this year. They need to be extended first.

I tend to agree. I don’t think it’s going to equate to an entire year as well. But no doubt it’s a proven that Dak needs more Elite supporting cast.

I’d hope your analysis wasn’t influenced by being an Eagle fan. Otherwise it’d lose its validity.

Yeah I can’t believe Peterson. Made 100 million so far and is broke. I guess we don’t know what these players do with there money. Can just assume some are smart. I don’t know what Elliot has done with his 20 million so far. I know I would have myself set for life from the signing bonus.

We don’t really know if Elliott has whizzed away his money or not?

...now he doesn't know whether to slay it or feed it!
Jerry going around and telling every open mic that we were going to sign Dak, Coop and Zeke. What did he expect? If he doesn't sign these guys it's gonna be a long tension filled season. Zeke gets signed and Dak doesn't, I don't think Dak will be happy and vice versa. He needs to find a way to sign them all before the season. IMO

Yep, his big mouth always talks about players and how great they are and that they are going to get paid. They got cocky and then start getting jealous and want to make sure they can their. It should be done with class and behind closed doors. Not out in the open with the media.

There’s no “monster” creates. Guys want to get paid. You can’t escape that. Only people who don’t want to get paid are the ones who’ve already been paid.

You can give a guy overconfidence that he is going to get the big bucs. He then automatically expects more. If you keep it close to the vest then you create more doubt. Doubt creates uncertainty which can create lower expectations. Then there are the guys like you said who just want it no matter what.
