For the time it took you to type such garbage, you could have looked at video of TJ and noticed how the Steelers D runs a 4 man base half of the time with TJ playing DE with a hand in the dirt half those times and playing upright the rest. He still creates havoc and makes plays playing DE on those 4 man base D formations while the rest comes off of their historied 5-3 front.

Good football players are good football players. They will succeed in a variety of roles and schemes. See Greg Ellis. Good 4-3 DE who reluctantly switched to OLB in Parcells 3-4 defense....and found good success.

He’s just not as good as the opposing guy in front of him. When we drafted him all reports said he was a project. Now when it comes to those guys it’s not going to happen overnight. I had no problem with the pick but in hindsight you can’t take those guys at that point in the draft.
Correct. You only take projects in the 4th round and later

If I remember correctly, cannon had a neck injury, or condition, that affected him and ended his career.
Both of them had injury issues. So in terms of poor front office decisions, Carpenter is probably the guy.

It's actually pretty surprising that you can't find a really spectacular bust in Cowboys draft history--there are no Trent Richardsons or Brian Bosworths.

Good point. Actually I think this is one of the reasons the cowboys have been drafting better lately.

They have been taking less projects in the 2nd and 3rd rounds lately than they did during the “down” years. Just taking good football players from major programs.

The only “projects” they have taken in this rounds lately were Jaylon and Gregory. And neither were projects in terms of their play, it was just injury and off field concerns.

Carpenter was picked 18th. I think we at least got a little special teams play from him.
Yeah but a top 18 pick should be giving more than special teams play lol. If Taco was 17th I’d agree but that he was far worse.

Naw I don’t know I think you can do those guys in the 2nd too.

I think he was going to be a let down, regardless, but if they ran the 4-3 I don't think he would of flamed out as quickly as he did here.
WOLB in the 4-3 would of been better than having him take on guards.

At the time of the draft, the majority of people out there wanted Watt. This was well before we even knew he would drop down that far. I hardly remember anyone at all even mentioning Taco. Dude had a few good games in college but was a huge project and was not worth the risk. It is not hindsight at all. Watt was clearly the better player.
nobody wanted taco either. but he was mocked to us all the way leading up to the draft just like LVE was

Cool of you to admit that.

And your guy Lawson isn't too shabby either. We managed to pick the booby prize out if that bag, just like we did with Escobar over Kielce at TE a few years back.

We hit a whole lot, but when we miss? Man, do we ever miss!
I mean if I'm really going to go into hindsight mode. I would actually trade back to an early 2nd round pick pick up an extra 3rd and turn taco into marcus maye or budda baker in the 2nd for a safety and take lawson with the extra 3rd rounder.

I was always a wait and see in regards to Taco. But this is the year he has to step it up. I am guessing he doesn't make the cut, so out he goes. Especially if Gregory comes back. He's a head case, but he's a lot better than Taco and shows a lot more effort.
