It isn’t ugly...it’s just business....and Elliott is the only one who doesn’t need a prove it deal

I like Dak but I’d be lying if I said he’s not replaceable and it hurts me to say it because I want him to retire a Cowboy

And Coopers only been here half a season I wouldn’t even bother with numbers right now for him

Elliott needs to "prove" he can stay out of trouble.

Always trying to nickle and dime. If only we held the head coach to the “prove it deal” standard
Without an extension that's essentially what he's on. Last time that happened was in 2014 when he finally broke through from being a .500 coach and the team started contending. Now he gets a chance to prove that he can take the team to the next step - or not.

That’s a prime example of why you don’t trade those top picks for players unless you know they are worth the contract you have to give them
Roy Williams was not and a few here pointed that out before the trade
But you have to make that decision before you trade for a player
You can’t give a first rnd pick for a player and let him walk a year and a half later
If Cooper walks and we don't win a SB this year then it was all a waste.

I actually like this news. Heck, it may be more expensive next year if guys like Dak ball out this season but at least I know he can get it done.

On the other hand, if he flubs then we dodged a bullet.

Dak yes. Amari no.

Pay Amari now. Pay Amari 5 months ago.

You've already invested a first round pick in him so you're not letting him walk and WR deals are getting stupid and none of them are worth 20 mill a year.

Cooper seems OK with playing out his deal.

I assume Dak would be too.

Elliott? He can be a knucklehead so who knows that he's thinking.
Cooper and Dak won't hurt their long-term value by playing another season (assuming they perform). As a RB, Zeke's chances of getting a big, long-term deal go down each year he puts more miles on the tires.

They saw what happened with D-Law, and it'll happen again.

Contracts always go up. What seemed like an "overpayment" a year ago is now considered ok the year after and 2 years later it's a steal.

It's like the rising house prices but without the fear of defaulting on your loan.

Say Dak wants 32 mil this year but the Cowboys are stuck on 30.5mil, for example. He goes out and has a good year, posts better numbers etc... He isn't going to accept 32 mil in 2020, and may want closer to 34-35, especially since Mahomes will be eligible for an extension in 2020 and he'll definitely reset the market.

What happened with D-Law? His demands went up but not extraordinarily high.

I think it's wise to risk paying a premium for a guy like Dak because you may want to see him play in Moore's system. Plus if Elliott is going to hold out, you are going to again find out if Dak is a product of Elliott or not.

Zeke holding out isn't likely going to up his chances of getting that massive deal either. Unless of course the season craters and Jerry panics, which I guess is always a possibility.

I think if they start out losing 2 of 3 or something like that and the offense looks bad, Jerry will open the wallet.

What do you think they’re doing by declining to extend him when he has only a year left on his current deal?

And in what sense are they nickelling and dining when all three are being offered top 5 contracts?

Some of you are so eager to criticize that you don’t stop to think about what you’re saying.

I agree. He is the one you HAVE to get done now. You have to recoup the draft investment. You have to keep your best receiver. You have to give your quarterback that target. You have to keep your franchise tag for your quarterback if it gets to that point.

This is the deal they have to get done. Even if it they overpay.

If that happened, their entire team sucks anyway, and shame on them for not already covering themselves with alternatives.

I would love that for Dak and hate that for the other two. If Cooper walks after 1.5 seasons and we don’t win the SB it’s the worst trade in Cowboys history
Sadly I have to disagree. Joey Galloway and Roy Williams did cost more and cooper has already done as much if not more.

Damn......this could get ugly

I agree they should all take it and I can live with it if our players feel they are deserving of more and would be willing to hurt the TEAM over afew extra dollars..this is going to get ugly in 2020 when all 3 holdout and some traded...its one thing for Zeke to draw a line in the sand right now and maybe it last until game 1 but if he hold out the entire year, and then both Amari and Dak hold out in 2020 along with Zeke ,..wow, unprecedented..

I disagree with that statement. The entire team could still be pretty good and the offense just isn't as good without its best player. There's too much parity in this league.

Aaron Donald and Mack reset the market between his first FT and the 2nd one.
I need to find the article/tweets from official sources but I thought his first demands were in the teens.
Not a huge increase, but still it cost them more to wait. I understood their delay, but it's silly season every year due to cap rollovers, increasing cap ceiling every year etc...

For Dak, that's why I thought by the bye would be a good time to try to get the deal done. They'll have 7 games, including a tough handful of games to see how he does.
