take it and get to work

will always irk me the way Zeke reciprocated "loyalty" to Jerry after all Jerry did for him during his suspension and legal battle(s)

Get over it. Jerry's only loyalty lies in what you can do for him. You think he gives one flying bleep about Zeke or Gregory as people? He just wants Zeke to keep scoring TDs and Gregory to keep getting sacks.

This "loyalty" is only an illusion that only exists because Zeke is a great football player.

can't tell if serious

you truly believe Jerry doesn't care about his players?

A 4-year, $60 million extension with $30 million guaranteed would set the market. If we set it up right we could get out of it after the first year of the extension (2021) without killing ourselves or mortgaging the future.

Both Bell and Gurley could be cut after 2020 by their teams with limited further cap damage.

I don't like how these contracts are going with a couple players demanding so much with all of the rest getting so little in comparison. So if Dallas pays Zeke, Dak, & Amari top dollar, how are they going to keep the team together? I am sorry but a team is more important than a single player. If you over pay a player or two or three, the entire team will get weaker as good players leave for FA. This is what happened to the 90's Cowboys for those too young to know. We signed the triplets and a couple players on defense to HUGE deals and had nothing left over for the lunch pale guys who were also good and we had to replace them with jags. I hope the Jones's learn from their earlier version of themselves and pay less per player in order to have a more complete TEAM. The best franchise in all of sports (Patriots) for the past 15 years does this. Why not follow their lead?

One thing that gets lost in talking about the outstanding Cowboys contracts is the fact that we're not really players in veteran free agency. If we're able to sign and develop our own and don't have to pay the actual free market rate for our core players--because that's where the real premiums are paid out--we should be able to pay our own tier 2 players competitively. We'll lose a few guys like La'el Collins or Hitchens, and we'll be able to replace those guys with draft picks at the top of the draft as there won't really be that many holes in the roster in any given season. That's worked ok so far with the OL contracts we've done. We just need to hold our water.

We do need to sign one of Dak or Cooper before the deadline, though. I don't want to go into next year with only one tag and both of those guys hanging out. Which is why Amari is happy to sit tight right now. He has a big year, Dak gets the tag, and he's a free agent and will make a killing. If we get Dak done, and if Julio Jones extends, then Cooper's agents should finally be willing to talk. Before that happens, though, they have no incentive to deal. Dak's representation, too, understands that they have leverage there, too, since the team needs to get either Dak or Cooper done to have the tag to use on the other next year. The team should have to pay Dak to get that leverage over Cooper, and I'm sure they don't really want to pay a premium for that.

I'm sorry. I like Zeke and all that, but I would not have made this offer. It sets a bad precedent for all players with multiple years remaining on their contracts. Actually the Gurley contract set that precedent, but you cannot BOTh claim that Gurley's contract is an outlier and also repeat the action.

Having said that, the offer has been made and I hope that he signs. I'd be lying if I didn't say that some part of me hopes that he holds his ground and that we rescind the offer.

If the players want a better deal in the next CBA, they should focus on teams who draft players being allowed to pay more to keep them and circumvent the cap in that way. Reward good drafting in this way and a lot of problems go away!

I guess Irvin was just hoodwinked by Jerry then since he picked him for his HOF introduction!

He should take it. Texas has no state taxes, California does. I'd be curious to see the numbers, but I'd bet it is really really close. Couple that with incentives, it may even exceed TG's deal.

NFL players pay state taxes for where they play not where they live. The Rams play 8 games outside of California. The Cowboys play 8 games outside Texas. They pay taxes for each state they play in based on time there. The Cowboy's players actually pay California state taxes for their time in Oxnard. That gap, while there, is not a big as you think.

Still think he should sign it though.

Dude. You know that just means higher sales taxes, municipal taxes, and property taxes to account for the lack of a state tax right?
Yep - fully aware. For example, my house in California costed me more than my house in Texas. Paid more in property taxes here than California despite my house in Texas being cheaper.

Bottom line you're gonna pay one way or the other.

If you’re already making him the 2nd highest, just pay the difference and make him the highest.

I don’t want to lose an elite talent over a few million.
There is no risk of Zeke leaving. Under contract for 2 years then franchise him.

It may cut it in half - it is still significant. I would think the signing bonus is taxed in Texas though. I could be wrong.

A former player’s take on the situation.

And look, he doesnt think Zeke should take less :eek:

Gurley’s contact is an outlier. Thomas is just being pro-player. Rams are already having some heart palpitations on Gurley’s contract.

There isn’t a team in football thought would give Elliott more than 45 million guaranteed.

Bell is an elite TB himself and he was a FA after Gurley signed and he didn’t even sniff the same contract Gurley got.
