Prescott doing contract negotiations the right way

by Joel Deering

While Ezekiel Elliott holds out for a new contract, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott continues to show up, work hard and prove he’s a team player.

As the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, Prescott knows he’s going to get his money. It really comes down to a matter of when he gets it. But that’s not the reason he’s showing up to Cowboys camp every day. Prescott has been there for his team from the very beginning, because he actually wants to be a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

Class act as compared to a trash act.

"The right way," i.e., keeps me comfortable regarding the millions he'll get.

Until he doesn't accept the inevitable low-ball offer. Then he's greedy, selfish, and was never a team player who just wanted money.
Dak has earned a big new contract, even in the top 5. Top overall position pay? Not so much.

The key is Dak has been here every day through his contract negotiations. Can you imagine what kind of a mess this team would currently be in if Dak were holding out and what kind of a message that would send?

lol. I hope not. So far, Kellen Moore has done pretty good for a preseason. It will be interesting to see how more creative and better Kellen can call plays for this offense, compared to the now departed Scott Linehan.
When is the last time you can recently (with this long emplaced) current sideline staff, recall us actually winning preseason games convincingly? Or even winning any preseason games for that matter?,,,I've long since gotten tired year in,every year,in seeing other teams 3rd rate spines whuppin' up on our 3rd rate spines, there's a roiling undercurrent rumbling, that's fixing to break surface & make some ride worthy waves
( although, seeing the #4 take the sack on his own 3 yard line, straight outta' the gate just about motivated me to endeavor other pursuits other than suffer the usual preseason witnessing I've been conditioned into accepting,so having said that, view my post accordingly)

Which would eliminate what little leverage he has.
How so? If he shuts his mouth to the media, & just texts his position coach on the predawn mornings of game day, stating he ain't gonna be rolling in to suit up&play under his currently constructed contract stipulations& he ain't gonna play ball on any game day till it's resolved to his particular fancy with a cherry on topo_O

Yet, Zeke is supposedly getting worked out hard core by Faulk in Cabo every day. He should be doing that here with the team.

Yeah he's probably bench pressing margaritas from a chaise lounge, then jogs over to the bar for a refill.
If he really wanted to work out, he'd be right here with his team mates working out like the contract he signed requires.

We were told the deal would be done several months ago. Since then we've been told the deal will be done "before the draft"; "before mini camps"; "before training camp"; "before preseason games"; "as soon as the team returns from California" etc. etc.

We were told that there is zero chance that a deal will not be done before the season starts - and various posters were given a very hard time for suggesting otherwise.

Well, here we are. Week 1 is nearly upon us and no sign of a deal.

It takes two to negotiate. There is no evidence that the Cowboys are giving anything other than polite vague responses (if even this) to Dak's requests for more money.

If he had waited till next year like he should've, he might not have needed that leverage. I believe he would've found Jerry and Steven more congenial.
And added a year of wear and tear for about $4 million while risking injury. Instead he’s about to become probably the highest paid RB in the league.

You're missing the point. The point is that Dak at least has made sure to be here working and training hard every day with his teammates while his agent continues to negotiate a new contract. That's the correct example to set, not holding out.
