Do you let a 24 year old game changing DT go to make your malcontent RB happy?

Then when Elliott isn’t resigned and Collins is up for a new contract, do we ask: “What if Xavier Woods has 10 picks, do we let him walk for a DT? Do we let a top CB like Jones go for a DT?”

You could do this with every player that you’re about to sign to a contract. IMO it is a fools errand.

The problem is that Dallas has been drafting so incredibly well that it is almost impossible to sign all of them to second contracts.

It is a problem but it is one you want to have. The best problem to have as a matter of fact.

Contract year. Collins will revert to his average self once he gets paid.

Exactly. 100% correct. Victims of good drafts. Wish the NFL gave Salary Cap carve outs for drafted players.

That would be ideal. If drafted players counted only half against the cap, it would put an enormous emphasis on the draft. It would allow the building of a very good team if you drafted well. It would all but eliminate drafted player hold outs, and probably bring down the cost of free agency to some extent.

Other than the fact that this thread is a false choice.

Zeke> Malik

Read the post. I laid out the risks with Collins. For the record that was not my title. The Mods changed it. Which is curious. Mods - Lay off my titles please.

Okay, new discussion. Could you explain why they can't sign Dak, Cooper, Collins, and Zeke with all their cap space? Many teams have more big contract guys than that.

Let me try this. Dak needs to be signed. DE is a potential issue but you have Taco, Armstrong, and Gregory there. Joe Thomas - please. You pay him a fraction of what you pay a starting DT. Brown is a 6th round pick that will not start. Collins is your starting DT. Look at Lawrence. Potentially the same career arc. All this cap talk has centered around Dak, Zeke, and Cooper. Collins has not been mentioned much. If he plays great hard decisions will need to be made.
The bolded is true for every player in a contract year in the history of the NFL. Collins hasn't been mentioned much because he hasn't done anything worth mentioning. There are a number of players on this team that, if they all of a sudden turn into All Pros, will cause difficult decisions...

I really like that idea. That also could be something to help the RB position as well. Get rid of the 5th year option for 1st rounders Let them renegotiate with teams that drafted them in year 3. Little chance it happens.

Good draft picks, high compensatory picks, the cowboy way.

Let's hope

There’s always tough decisions to be made. I’d say Jerry will try to sign as many as he can.

Unfortunately an Elite RB is probably not only more critical to our success because of our QB’s skill set and the fact we have a follow the ball GM who still believe Triplets won him his rings.

Much more likely we can find another 3rd round pick to replace Collins than a RB with Zekes talent level. Didn’t we just use a 2nd round pick who could replace him?

If Gallup improves to a #1 WR then maybe we don’t have to pay Cooper. Or tag him for a year.

Well yeah, that plan would render the 5th year option needless. It would/should be eliminated. But don't worry about Zeke or any RB under the 5th year option. RBs drafter early that have a 5th year and possibly two franchise tags are making a boatload of money. Zeke would be looking at over 60 million. The problem is he wouldn't be getting anything in one lump sum, as in a big signing bonus. That's what they're looking for.

little concerned with how these guys keep exploding around here once it's contract time. he might be having an awesome camp but I can't forget how unreliable he was the last few years with injuries.

M Collins has looked like an absolute beast in preseason. Unblockable. He has flashed throughout his career so we know he has talent. He is playing for a contract so we know the risks there. We also know of the injury history. Let's say Collins goes boom this season. 16 starts. 10+ sacks. Beastly run defense. Going rate for a top DT is mid to high teens. Donald is at $22+ but he is a top 5 player in the game so no comparison. Collins is 24 years old. 24 years old!!!. You can't sign Dak, Cooper, Zeke and Collins. Sorry you can't.

Do you let a 24 year old game changing DT go so you can make your malcontent RB the highest paid RB in football?

Collins playing like an All Pro changes the Zeke thoughts, no?

Thanks in advance for your views.

Or you can word it like

Do you let your probowl running back and arguably one of the 3 best RB's in the game for someone who may turn out to be another Tyrone Crawford?
