Dallas Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott invokes Emmitt Smith as he breaks silence on contract talks

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott broke his silence amid a holdout with his current team over his wish for a new contract.

“I love playing for the Dallas Cowboys, I love the organization, my teammates. I do want to be a Cowboy for the rest of my life and hopefully that’s a possibility,” Elliott said. “But even Emmitt Smith, the greatest running back ever, ended up going to play a couple of years for another organization. So it’s just the nature of the game, but I want to be a Dallas Cowboy for as long as I can.”

He’s not Emmitt Smith tho. He hasn’t won a super bowl. Emmitt Smith was never suspended. I like Elliott and have been a fan of his, but I’m ready for this to end one way or another. At this point I could take him or leave him!

Same way I feel

I’m a huge zeke fan but this contract thing is exhausting either suit up or don’t

Wow Emmitt Smith held out to get a 4 year deal worth 13.6 million deal. Imagine today's #'s, Zeke would get that playing just 1 year vs Smith's 4 year deal. I dont know how many people here on the board has had their paychecks increase by 4x doing the same line of work.

It might take a similar 0-2 start for Jerry to scramble out of his Sky Box to sign Elliott to the most lucrative contract by a RB in the NFL surpassing Gurley.

Despite Elliott’s off field behavior he certainly has earned it on the field and health wise a much lesser risk than Gurley.

And if it turns around our season while leading the league again in rushing propelling us to another playoff appearance and division title Elliott could become only the 2nd player in Cowboys history to win MVP.

Can't they just invoke some type of clause in the contract that frees them if he gets into trouble?
Nevermind, he probably wouldn't sign that deal anyway lol.
Actually they can NFL contracts have so many clauses in them....so many players sign for 70 million and only see 12 million of it

And yeah I doubt Elliott would sign that

Mods need to merge the two threads on this.

Fox News a little late to the party if they think Zeke is breaking silence. It has already been reported he said this prior to holding out.

i liked him better when he was silent.

you're welcome.

Myth.. . Smith NEVER HELD OUT. He PLAYED OUT HIS ENTIRE CONTRACT. He just wanted more money than JJ was willing to give.
