News: Fox: Ezekiel Elliott invokes Emmitt Smith as he breaks silence on contract talks

It might take a similar 0-2 start for Jerry to scramble out of his Sky Box to sign Elliott to the most lucrative contract by a RB in the NFL surpassing Gurley.

Despite Elliott’s off field behavior he certainly has earned it on the field and health wise a much lesser risk than Gurley.

And if it turns around our season while leading the league again in rushing propelling us to another playoff appearance and division title Elliott could become only the 2nd player in Cowboys history to win MVP.

Surely Jerry knows he doesnt have Aikman at quarterback this time, who still started 0-2 without Emmitt.. As much as Zeke has irritated me with all this, we need him out here.

Not at the "price tag" he's got scribbled across his forehead ,We Don't.
I hear ya, but from the reports they are only half a million off from Gurley money already. I just hope hes been working hard and in shape...we better not pay for him to come back to watch him get injured quickly...

Is that the bottleneck? A lousy 1/2 mil? SHEESE!
*I'd of already had "Moose&Rocko" shoot that greedy SOB repeatedly in the pee-pee with b-b guns, till the dawning realization struck him as to how completely stupid his situation was, by continuing holding out,,,er,,,but that's just my M.o_O_O

"i want to be a cowboy forever,... nature of game is playing on another team..." ...ok

If anything, it will be the other way around. Start off 2-0 or 3-0 and Pollard plays like we think he can, Zeke will need to get 'real' or this could go bad for him quickly. He would have ZERO leverage.

What an idiot. He has no right to make that comparison. Emmitt was never a "hold out:". He didn't have a contract. HUGE difference. Emmitt fullfilled his contract and it was Jerry who dragged his feet signing him to a new contract. Zeke still has 2 years left on his contract.

Even Emmitt takes issue with Zeke on this one.

That’s exactly how it could go without him. Do you think Jerry is willing to take that risk?

And let’s assume we did start 3-0 against perhaps our easiest stretch of the season then what happens if we begin to struggle when the schedule toughens up.

Which would be similar to the scenario in 2017 where we struggled without Elliott against tougher opponents but not lesser competition. Ultimately 3-3 without Elliott though ended our playoff hopes.

But you’re right , the longer we have success without Elliott it could go badly for him. That’s always the risk of holding out if the team chooses to move forward. And of course there’s risk for the Cowboys as well and why this is such an interesting situation.

The bottom line is what do we think Jerry will do?

Is Jerry willing to risk a slow start which could jeopardize the season. Is Jerry willing to place Dak out there without the production Elliott provides and his presence that helps keep defenses honest at LOS. Is it worth the risk potentially exposing Dak like he was during Elliott’s suspension and or before Cooper trade especially if you just sign him to a huge extension.

One other scenario Is that if Dak isn’t willing to take less then maybe Jerry might want to humble Dak into taking less to see if his passing can carry us without an Elite RB and dominating running game. That doesn’t seem as likely to me but as always attempt to entertain all angles.

Call it what you will but I can assure you we all called it a hold out at the time.

If you’re not playing while negotiating a contract it’s generally considered a hold out of some sorts.

Gotta do what you gotta do, Zeke. Love the player, love watching him, love that he wants to be a Cowboy; but if hes really willing to bounce over 5 mil difference when it means we could lose other guys we also love here, then so be it.

The 2 situations are no comparable. Believe what you want.

This was from a June Zeke interview.

So he isn't breaking his silence. The interview just finally ran.
Fake News indeed.

To answer your question, Jerry will sign him - I am confident in that. He is probably using the soft schedule at the start of the season to his advantage and I don't blame him.

Do you think he will sign him before or during the season?

Zeke is forcing this issue to a head, he’s no dummy and realizes that Dak and Cooper were in-line to get their $ first. If he just sat back he would not be as close to a major payday that he is now. Look at Murray, 1,800 yards and we were not going to pay him. Zeke is close to a home run, smart move by him and his team.

Myth.. . Smith NEVER HELD OUT. He PLAYED OUT HIS ENTIRE CONTRACT. He just wanted more money than JJ was willing to give.
Smith actually held out all of training camp his rookie deal (record length at the time for a rookie holdout) to get a 4 year deal and then held out again when the 4th year was starting. His 4 year deal was signed September 4th 1990

All the articles i'm reading are saying Emmitt held out as a rookie to get a 4 year deal and then held out his 4th year. I'm not sure why people are saying he wasn't under contract because he was
