That was a dark time when they gave him that contract. It was about the same time we handed $2M to awful players like Jasper Brinkley.

I could be wrong but I think they would have been on the hook for his entire salary if he was on the roster game one. So if he doesn't find a team and we lose a starter, I can see them bringing him back during the season.

I wonder how all the details would have worked out. It did seem rather shady of the league office to announce this the day before final cuts, *maybe* just in time to put us on the hook for his entire salary if we wanted to keep him.

I'd be surprised if anyone shows interest. He wasted away the prime years of his career and I don't see how a team could trust him at this point.

Don't need to trust him. Sign him with incentives. If he delivers, great, if he doesn't cut him.

I can see NE signing him. Totally. Belichick is good at getting quality time out of smart vets. He won't take any crap, and players know it. "I'll give you a chance for a ring, but cross me and you're out." Being able to dangle that ring under the noses of players is a huge advantage for NE. The rich get richer.

McClain probably calls him. I want a ring. Vet min. I won't let you down, because I won't let me down. I know you'll cut my *** if I mess up.

You’ll have to let me know when it does. I’ve heard the same thing about Dez, David Irving, and Rico Gathers. None of which happened either.

He didn’t get convicted for setting his house on fire?

The case has been off and on.
It, the fire, was ruled arson.
He's not been named in any criminals complaints.
He's off the hook but needs money. Good luck Ro.

No real loss to the Cowboys. The damage had already been done. I wish him well in his future endeavors.

This is all just for closure as he was still on the books. I don't think he has any intention of coming back to football

I doubt the Cowboys did anything. What due diligence?
The man hates to practice. He walked away from football twice.
He's 31 years old and hasn't played in five years. He's not exactly the most stable person mentally it would appear.
And he hopes to join a team NOW without having gone through a training camp?
Yeah, that sounds like the resume of a man in high demand.

You totally misunderstood my message.I was referring to the due diligence of putting up with him long enough for any and every team to be convinced that they'd be wasting their time with him. That due diligence! We put up with him far more than he deserved to be put up with. No need to remind me of his history with us. I'm trying to forget about that and from what you're saying, you should be, too. I wasn't praising him by any means -- far from it.

So.. this got me to wondering, if you have the rights to a suspended player who hasn't been around for several years when he is reinstated does he automatically become a member of the 53? Is there a special list they would put someone like that on? Does the team have to cut someone if he is automatically part of the 53? Seems just out of left field enough to bring up some weird scenarios no one had considered.

LOL - in other news, Germans bomb Pearl Harbor. I hate that he didn’t keep playing for us. He was a bright spot back then. Play-wise that is, not brains-wise.

Animal House quote makes no sense with what you are asserting.

If he signs with someone do we get a comp pick? I don’t think we do as I think it goes off of playing time. Can a knowledgeable person inform me.

No, we dont get a comp pick............you only get comp picks for players that were on your team the previous year that have expiring contracts and sign as an unrestricted free agent with another team.

Players that are released do not count as comp eligible. Rolando still had one year left on his contract with a $5 million base salary and as a result, was promptly released. So no comp pick for him.

You can request a roster exemption for the player in order to determine if he is in proper playing shape, I believe its up to one week. After that time, you either have to put him on the active roster, which would require releasing somebody else, or you just release the reinstated player.

Obviously we didnt even bother asking for an exemption, we just flat out released him.

Eagles should take a look. They are quite thin at ILB and are down a body already due to injury for multiple games. Bradham & Zach Brown are the starters but there isn't much behind them except for JAGs.
