Taco was a reach due to JJ looking for his next "War Daddy". The sad part is that he's been so up and down that they don't think he can help the team more than some lower profile guys on the line. With Robert Quinn coming back, the Cowboys are going to have to make a decision about Taco. My guess is he's cut or they trade him for a 6th rounder or something.

I was all for the Cowboys looking for Tank’s replacement. If Taco was even mediocre we wouldn’t have paid Tank $22M per year. I like the idea. The execution was horrible. That’s what happens when you force a pick.

If you want to try to develop a player take him later in the draft than the 1st round.

Dline drafting the last 5 years

2015
2nd round, Randy Gregory - suspended
5th round, Ryan Russell - out of the league

2016
3rd round, Maliek Collins - preseason HOFer
4th round, Charles Tapper - out of the league

2017
1st round, Taco Charlton - trading block
7th round, Joey Ivie - out of the league
7th round, Jordan Carrell - out of the league

2018
4th round, Dorance Armstrong - JAG

2019
2nd round, Trysten Hill - can't make the active roster

5th round, Joe Jackson - TBD
7th round, Jalen Jelks - IR

A little early to be so harsh on these guys (Armstrong and Hill). If Armstrong is a JAG after 17 games, that's pretty good (especially since he was only a 4th rounder which is the definition of a JAG). Hill was drafted for his athleticism and upside. It may take him some time to make the adjustment to the NFL game, but I'm not worried that he's inactive at this point. To me, the only guy I'm truly disappointed about who made this list is Taco. He was defintiely a reach, but he was at least a second round talent and so far he's been inconsistent. Because of Quinn coming back, I doubt Taco will be on the roster same time next week.

Taco isn’t playing because they’re obviously trying to move him and don’t want to risk him getting injured.

Hill is the only head scratcher but I’m confident he will play soon.

I hope this is because they have a deal in place (late rounder, not Fitzpatrick) and don't want him hurt because I fail to see what Joe Jackson brought last week to not at least give him a shot.

Taco is about to get cut.

Is Hill really THAT bad? Because with this guys issues with the last coaching staff they are cooking up the perfect storm for him to hate THIS coaching staff.

Taco isn't playing because he sucks. If they were really interested in trading Taco they would let him get some playing time. A good showing would only bolster his value.

Taco is about to get cut.

I hope Marinelli is on the same launching Pad.. preferably keep him in the booth on game days and put him on "Paul Alexander" ignore status during practice. .
We've had similar dead weight in the past Coslet, Alexander, Linehan, previous DB coach and now Marinelli

Hill is not "bad". He's an athletic kid who was drafted for his upside. He's a rookie that is adjusting to the NFL game. Right now, he's not in position to help the team more than the guys who are active, Give the kid some time. He'll get his chances as the season goes on.

I’d trade a 1st and Taco for Fitzpatrick... maybe seeing Taco traded will motivate Hill.

I agree he isn't THAT bad. But the kid freaked out last time because he wasn't getting playing time. Cowboys are doing that all over again to him.

I want to say I keep hearing (and by hearing I mean reading) that the biggest thing with Taco is his attitude. Maybe he is a real Dbag and it is starting to affect his relationship with the team?

I am not denying that part, but again, just because Marinelli adopts a player does not mean the organization has to take his recommendations as gospel. We got into trouble doing that before with Rob Ryan.

The Jones’ have always taken the coaches opinion in account and it hasn’t worked in terms of Marinelli and the specific traits he is looking for. It has caused them to reach for players when more overal talented players are on the board. Whatever is at heart of the issue needs to be changed immediately. When you look at this past draft, it just would have made a ton of sense to take Thornhill and hope Hill, with all his red flags, dropped to you in the 3rd. I wouldn’t have even minded if they would have traded back up for him after taking the no brainer in Thornhill. They seemed to have been doing that in recent years but really messed it up this year. It makes me sick that we could easily have Watt and Thornhill added to our defense instead of Taco and Hill, two guys that can’t even crack the active game day roster. The only thing needed for that to have happened was common sense on draft day.

That is part of why the kid needs to mature (and why he's not on the field). This is not about him. It's about the team. When he shows that he's ready to play in practice, he'll get his chance to make the active roster on game day.
