I’ve been bashing Garrett since 2008 and been saying he’s the worst decision Jerry has ever made in setting this organization back, And ruining the prime careers of talented players along the wat. I’m not defending him.
Linehan HAD a job before coming here and it was as his experience in Dallas that most likely has kept him out of a job, unless he decided to retire.
That being said, Linehan was far better than Garrett ever was as a play-caller and the only reason Linehan was brought in, was because Garrett’s offense would have changed completely. Linehan had the connection with Garrett via Miami and the offensive coaching trees were the ‘same’. First, Callahan was given control by Jerry and Garrett kept interfering, per Jerry’s own words, and sabotaging it, so Jones basically went with Jason and brought in Linehan. Jones specifically said this and further, said he didn’t want Garrett touching the offense.
It is a testament to Callahan’s work on the RG and OL that it took him only one year to get in the graces of Jerry that the latter actually experimented with him as a play caller.
But. Jerry’s decisions with regards to coordinators has been in regards to changing play-callers, not changing the complete offense, at least as far as Garrett has been HC these last few years. Garrett obviously maneuvered the situation in this manner. If the offense was completely revamped, then Garrett’s would be completely rendered “useless”.
This is why I think Garrett was a big reason behind Dak starting over Romo, because Romo post new-contract was shifting the power dynamic even more.
Remember, this is also the same Jerry who went 3-4, back to 4-3 on defense, but always defended Garrett’s role in the offense. It took Garrett multiple years of failure and Romo’s new contract for Jerry to start inserting himself between Garrett and the play-calling.
Yet, Garrett still remains despite all this. This still is telling that Garrett has significant influence in the organization. Any other person would have been fired. Jerry was extremely close to Jason’s father, Jim Garrett and the latter along with Lacewell were very influential in the 20 plus year disasters. Jim and Larry has to retire when Parcells came, but showed up once again after Bill retired.

So based on that article from @khiladi i don’t want to hear how Garrett has nothing to do with the defense either. What a trash *** organization this is. I’m officially ready for 4-12. Disgusting
No Dap for the Clapper:
I agree with you except for the worst decision Jerry made being Garrett. No the worst decision Jerry made was when he bought the team he somehow believed that entitled him to be a GM for life. Regardless of results. That’s Jerry’s worst decision.I’ve been bashing Garrett since 2008 and been saying he’s the worst decision Jerry has ever made in setting this organization back, And ruining the prime careers of talented players along the wat. When 2012 finished and the tides were turning for Garrett, and Jerry was extremely angry saying changes were going to be made, Garrett basically called out Rob Ryan and the defense as the fault the offense didn’t succeed. He basically didn’t just point to the lack of TOs, Jason said that the lack of TOs didn’t give his offense more opportunities to score, meaning Jason even placed the failures of his offense on the defense. Yet Jason failed to mention all the TOs that his offenses created that gave the opposing teams offense opportunities to score.
That is when they went completely to 4-3 and brought in Kiffen. At the same time, I think Romo via his new contract was in a position to force some changes, which led to the “Peyton-like” responsibilities that Jerry was quoted as saying. If it weren’t for Romo, these changes weren’t going to happen. Even the Frederick pick, Jerry attributed to Romo. Callahan also worked him out and supposedly was pushing heavily fur Dallas to pick him. So with Romo, Jason started losing control, which is why, to this day I still believe Jason and Stephen worked their Dak angle to retain the staring job. Part of the sell of Dak to Jerry was his contract was going to be a lot cheaper than Romo.
Just as an aside, Jerry that year in 2012 fired a whole bunch of assistant coaches, including guys like Skip Peete. But he didn’t fire John Garrett, but gave him a graceful exit. “Jones Ranch” and John basically sold it like Jason’s brother wanted to move on.
The main point on all of this is the Garrett’s have significant influence in this organization, even after all that has happened. They are politicians to the core.

And let’s not forget what Garrett is getting paid to do now. Hold up his end of this bargain by letting Jerry and his multi-generational offspring do whatever they want, wherever, whenever they choose. You know like zero other NFL HCs allow............sorry forgot one:
8. Collect my ANNUAL $6 MILLION paycheck for the above tremendous and vital contributions to this team. REMEMBER FOLKS: Dallas Cowboys are NOTHING without me! It's a Process!
Maybe we should sign antonio brown to post videos of team meetings. That way we can see how Garrett truly talks to the team.
So may I ask, what exactly DOES he do to earn $6 million annually? No results, no discipline, no accountability, no leadership, no competitive edge, no energy....he is a lifeless MANNEQUIN on the sidelines weekly! So let me ask you this. What can a guy do if your Boss has already told him not to interfere with the OC? Can Garret do anything? Can he make Moore call a different play? he's a lame duck walk around coach with no real power, just the way Jerry likes it.
