Observing the dichotomy between the 49ers and the Cowboys has been one of the most depressing things about this season. We are witnessing one of our greatest rivals lapping Garrett's "process" in real-time. For some perspective...three years ago Chip Kelly was their head coach and Colin Kaepernick was their QB. Below is a link to their 2016 roster and their current roster.

In 3 years they've changed out their QB, RB, all of their WRs, TE, 4 of 5 of their OL, and all of their starters in the LB unit and their entire secondary. Also their punter in kicker have changed....all of this in 3 years and they've surpassed us. All of this continuity in Dallas is getting us nowhere. Teams are destroying, rebuilding, and lapping this franchise in 1/4th of the time afforded Garrett.

Of course they had a different process and have changed out a lot more players than the Cowboys. The Cowboys have averaged almost 10 wins per season the last 5 years, and made the playoffs 3 times, and the 49ers have averaged 4 wins a year the past 5 years, and haven't finished higher than 3rd in their division. They weren't even remotely starting from the same place.

As for surpassing the Cowboys … what they have done is surpass the Cowboys for the 1st 6 games of the season. We don't know yet how that will play out. How many teams did it appear the Cowboys had surpassed in 2016? What about the Rams - they got to the Super Bowl last year but have lost their last 3 straight games, just like the Cowboys? Let's see how this holds up over time before putting the 49ers on a pedestal.

2016 49ers starting roster vs 2019 49ers starting roster. I only see one starter (DeForest Buckner) remaining from 2016 although I believe Staley is hurt. They've changed EVERYTHING yet you don't hear anything about a "work in progress". How the hell does Jerry or his son not see this and get sick about it????

The 49ers got a gm with no experience but a guy that wants to win and will do anything and everything to get there.

Then they go get a young bright coach that was groomed by a 2 time sb coach that took the nfl to school in the late 90s with his blocking scheme. Even made Matt Ryan into an mvps qb.

The Niners are already ahead of us...

We are once again trying to replicate the 90s cowboys.. a team that cannot be replicated because the salary cap. We cant just go out there and beat everyone mano a mano..

We need coaches and we have none.

@Risen Star @CalPolyTechnique @Sydla @CyberB0b @KingintheNorth @Chocolate Lab @yimyammer thoughts on this? :facepalm:

Like others above have mentioned, this is their second rebuild since Garrett was hired.

Yet a majority of this site still thinks Jerry is a good owner and Will McClay is a genius.

Half of the starters from the Cowboys 2016 roster are gone. Yes, 11 players. It's not like there have been zero changes to the roster.
I do understand what everyone is saying though.

For the lazy ones:

Dez
Beasley
T Williams
Leary
Free
J Crawford
T Mcclain
A Hitchens
B Carr
O Scandrick
B Church

The 49's were terrible for multiple years and have many high round draft picks as a result. The cowboys had 1 losing season in 2015 that gave us a new young core of players that have gone on to have 3 winning seasons in a row. But do not worry, once we pay Dak you'll get all the losing seasons you want along with some new coaches and a bunch of regrets.

They've replaced their head coach which means implementing completely new systems on offense and defense. They switched from a spread to a pro-style offense. They switched from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 defense. And they've replaced the most important position on the field - QB. Comparing them to the turnover in Dallas is ridiculous.

49ers, Rams, Colts, Eagles, Bears just off the top of my head. All of these teams started their rebuilds while Garrett was 5-7 years into his "process".
I guess we’ll see. We’re always late to the party!

Just rehire Garrett to a new 5-year extension! It’s what we need.

Look how many of those are draft picks, which is what the Cowboys want to do (as most teams should want to do). The difference is the 49ers aren't afraid of free agents and are active traders.

Some of their recent high draft picks aren't even starting for them (Bosa and Thomas) but are contributing

Meanwhile, two our recent top picks are gone (Taco) and inactive (T.Hill).

Traded for Tomlinson, Ford, Garoppolo

Not afraid of names in free agency...Sherman, Goodwin, Alexander and some sneaky smart free agent signings,,,Richburg, Juszczyk, Gould, and Person.

Player acquisition is a fulltime job for most NFL teams and we have too many family members with opinions to be consistently good at signing free agents.

One heck of a rebuild by Lynch and Shanahan. That's what skill and accountability look like.

These 49'ers are but one of many empires that have risen, fallen, and risen again while we waste years, and careers, in the Garrett era.

Add the Eagles, Falcons, Rams, Seahawks, Saints, Panthers, Bears, and many more I'm likely forgetting.

Other teams rise and fall and rise again, while our never-ending story and 'the process' continues...
