News: Cowboys' Jason Garrett deep in survival mode once again

This Philly game seems like the quintessential game Garrett pulls out of his *** whenever the vultures are circling, but something seems different about this season. This team almost feels soulless this year. I think Sunday is the beginning of the end for Garrett.

Exactly. That's why I said no matter how many players we get back, this team isn't going to get better until whatever demon is lurking in that locker room is gone or destroyed. I don't know if it's Garrett or a certain player, but something's up. I've never seen a team that started off so hot to turn so dead and soulless, at least not so quickly. The drop off was insane.

FRISCO, Texas -- Six games into the 2019 NFL season, Dallas Cowboyscoach Jason Garrett is on the hot seat. Again.

It might not be a hot seat to owner and general manager Jerry Jones, who has the only opinion that matters, but it is to just about every follower of the Cowboys, tired of the sameness of the past eight-plus seasons as the team prepares for an NFC East showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC).

Is this the sixth time Garrett has been on the hot seat? Seventh? Eighth? Here we are again with Garrett's future becoming an even bigger story because of the Cowboys' three-game losing streak entering Sunday's first-place divisional meeting.

I found this quote in particular to be very interesting. Even the head coach understand this:

"How the players execute is a direct reflection on the coaches, and you have to just make sure, as a position group, coordinator, head coach, everybody who's involved in it, you have to make sure you're creating the right environment for them to take that work they do in practice to the game and execute it," Garrett said.

@Dre11 I know you dont place the blame on coaches for how poor weve played but that is a quote directly from the coaches mouth.

When I tried talking to you in another thread about the coaching you were saying it's on the players and their mistakes and the coach doesn't matter. You said something along the lines of the players would do the same stupid things with another staff and thats when I asked you why coaches ever get fired if it's not ever their fault and it's all on the players. You redirected to the owner/gm and I agreed he was a problem but you never answered why coaches get fired every year if they arent the ones to blame.

I didn't mention it the other day but I remembered that you were a high school coach or something like that and that's when it all made sense. You werent really addressing the conversation as a fan or an outsider but instead you were absolving the coaching of responsibility because your a coach as well on albeit on a much lower level.

So I'm sure you wont look at this and agree with it, even if those words are out of Garrett's mouth. Just remember when you say its about the players and what they do that he literally said it's a direct reflection on the coaching staff. This is a professional coach on a much higher level of play then your working with as well.

I'm not knocking you whatsoever because I think high school sports can be enjoyable and you coaching is really cool. I have a good friend who coaches high school football and made it as far as a practice squad in the NFL so I respect what hes doing and his knowledge of the game.

So don't take it personal but the proof was there before and now you can hear it out of Garrett's mouth for yourself.

Tell that to the three 8-8 seasons with season ending losses vs division rivals (all of them). Or the times we went belly up with one injury (Romo, 2015) or suspension (Zeke, 2017). I give McClay & Co. credit for assembling talent, which has made it easier to win, but I don't give JG credit for using the talent correctly
That is like bringing up that the Saints head coach went 7-9 with Drew Bree's for 3 seasons in a row as if the coach never got better.

But it's all the players fault for not executing and has nothing to do with red. Right @Dre11 @Idgit and any other putz on here that said the same.

Do I need to post all the videos of players and ex players, Stephen Jones who says they just need to execute better.

Because it's standard football cliches. It happens and is said everywhere. The HC just said that execution is a reflection of the job the coaches are doing. Why are you suddenly now discounting something a coach said?

Because it flies in the face of what you are saying?

He's also won a super bowl and had other deep runs. So there's that
So he got better. Jason has overcome a whole lot more with less. Drew Brees goes down and Bridgewater an experience back up QB who has started meaningful games in the NFL and they win....big deal Jason did it with a 4th round rookie QB that even we didnt want when Romo went down. Jason may need to go because it is time for change but respect should be given for what he has accomplished in the most adverse of situations the last few years.

It's more cliche for the coach to say it and fall on the sword for his players than the players . The players are the ones playing, who ultimately has to execute, the coach ain't on the field. What does he have to do with Gallop dropping a pass? What does he have to do with a deflected pass bouncing off Amari for an int., what does he have to do with Witten fumbling, what does he have to do with Maher missing a kick, what does he have to do with Frederick getting whipped on a block? The players aren't robots, there isn't no controller for you to control their minds.

LOL.

So when players say it, it's true. When Garrett says it, he's really not telling the truth but rather just covering for his players. Of course.

And your extreme arguments make your position look weaker. No one has ever suggested that players make mistakes that have nothing to do with coaching. But your argument has essentially been coaches never make mistakes during games or in preparation that hurt the team. All game plans are good. All plays calls are the right ones.

That's idiotic.

not that he even deserves a good one, but...

A friend of mine says...what better yes man can Jerry have other than Jason...

Isn't it possible that this is why Jerry feels so "comfortable" with him as his head coach? ;)

It makes sense to me! How many men could be satisfied, despite being so subservient? o_O

Again, and this is the last time I'M commenting on it. The players play the game on the field, they determine the outcome...period.

You can keep saying it but it doesn't get any less illogical or silly.

Players absolutely have an effect on an outcome of a game. No one ever said that they don't. But so do the coaches. To continually argue that coaches pretty much never make mistakes during a game, never make bad play calls, never design a flawed game plan is easily the craziest thing ever uttered on this board.

I mean why do coaches even get fired? A lot of really dumb owners out there that have fired coaches over the years, I guess. Didn't they know their coach was really, really good and immune from mistakes and that it was really the players all along that totally failed the franchise?

Was Dallas wrong to have fired Phillips to hire Garrett? Apparently they were. Phillips was good, as all coaches are, he was just let down by player execution, I guess. Crap, we probably should have kept Chan Gailey.

You know it's not so much about losing the three games it's how this team played those three games basically not even showing up until the last 17 to 20 minutes that's what bothers me the most they cannot seem to figure out how to play a 60-minute game? With that being said you don't need to play Perfect 60 Minutes all the time but you at least got to show up and they haven't

Good post.. if you read my post that I made in this thread it echoes alot of what you are saying. I also asked Dre to explain the firing of coaches around the league since its never the coaches fault and he had no answer for it and just deflects to other things. As I suggested, hes a football coach in like high school or something like that so he isnt going to admit that the coach is a problem. Forget the facts that a PRO coach is saying losing is a direct reflection of the staff.

Consider the source. 'Coach Wannabe' is the last person whose opinion matters on the topic. And the very last person you would ever want to have coaching for you. It's all on the players and the coaches are perfect and free from any and all responsibility.

No accountability.
