There is a radio interview with the D-Coordinator after the draft where they asked him questions about Hill.

The DC said in their program that the best players do not always start.

In general, the idea of not starting your best players makes zero sense.

Do you think the D-Coordinator was possibly just trying to put a positive spin on a guy he liked/is pulling for?

Wasn’t the big knocks on him coming out is didn’t always give 100% and was hard to coach. I wanted Thornhill but I’m not an NFL expert.

What I dont get is he had basically the same scouting report as Taco with the added baggage of red flags with his coaching staff but Marinelli AND Richard basically pounded the table for this guy. Stranger than that is many expected there to be a different result

A big red flag for me was that Harbaugh, his defensive coordinator Don Brown, and his DL coach Greg Mattison are all three HARD NOSED coaches yet they could not get Taco to maximize his potential. Where are the background checks to properly weed these types of characters out of the draft???

It is a human flaw to believe everyone deserves a second chance. Rod got the most out of selvie and some others, but regrettably not everyone responds to being given a second chance. Nip it in the bud.

Falling in love with a player based on the prepped polished persona they put on during combine interviews is like falling in love with a chick on your first date. They should have done a proper background check to find out what he's really like during the dog days of a long football season.

The day I heard that he signed a contract with Marinelli I started having flashbacks to Randy Gregory and all the promises he was making after getting drafted. These guys are just saying whatever in order to get in the good graces of a team and get drafted.

Marinelli could have said Hill is terrible or he could have said Hill is super awesome.

The quote is from Clarence Hill. That guy has been wrong more often than not over the years.

There is no way to know what Marinelli said unless there is audio of them saying it.

Missing on Taco and Hill is probably the difference in being a serious contender this year. We will feel the true impact next season when we lose a lot of free agents.

So, out of a 1st, 2nd, and 2nd round picks, the only thing we have to show for it on the DL is a regressing player.

Why are we so bad at drafting DL? And if Marinelli overrules the collective wisdom of all the scouts and work that's been put into your evaluations, you are probably incompetent.

Sometimes the only thing that will straighten out an underachiever is peer pressure. Unfortunately, players are loathe to do this. Dak exhorted some to work harder prior to the eagles game. Many cz'ers accused him of throwing them under the bus. But we played our best game of the season. Time for team leaders to speak up again. If not, release hill now and move on.
