Playoffs, none if one and done?

Something happens to some fans with a team with repetitive behavior and some are purely results driven for the season, it is all about the destination, the journey is inconsequential. And there is no good or bad to it, it's just how you view the season.

If the Cowboys were to make the playoffs, and right now it looks like winning the division is the only way they would, and they were to lose out in that first round, would you rather they didn't make it at all?

Would the disappointment and frustration of that be to the point you'd rather just have the season end after 16 games?

Those are your only two choices, none of that "anything can happen in the playoffs", the choice is simple. End the season after 16 or end it after 17 games?
For me, I would rather see them not make the playoffs than repeat the hamster wheel experience of a one and done or even a WC win and done. Tired of this “wash-rinse-repeat”. If after 9 full seasons, Garrett can’t get us to any better place than we’ve been since 1996, what’s the point?

Absolutely. Ultimately this is entertainment, and we should want it to last as long as possible. The deeper they go, the more enjoyable the season, and hope is always more fun than no hope.

Besides that, if a person is unwilling to risk the pain of losing, they have no business being associated with sports anyway. That's the nature of the game, and really the nature of life. You can't take a shot at winning it all - or reaching personal goals in life - without risking the disappointment of falling short. If a person is unwilling to risk that, he cannot accomplish what he wants.
I thought I just said that! Lol

It's been 24/25 years so what's one more. 16 games.

I also say this because the Red Menace should be fired if they miss the playoffs.

The premise of this thread is precisely why I have the "Go Seahawks" stuck on my profile. Last year it seemed as though Cowboys fans were disappointed the team made the playoffs instead of getting a better draft pick because they figured we had no chance to win. I'm like, just root for the Seahawks then. Hell, anyone wanting to miss the playoffs instead of making them should actually be rooting for us to lose every game so we get an even better draft spot.

That's not part of the original post, I'm just answering the question as it was posed. Not to say I am rooting to lose all the games, I'm not, for various reasons, but it was a two-scenario question...

One thing the Cowboys do well is draft.

We can't tell the future. I'll take my chances with the playoffs every time.
I agree our drafts have greatly improved under McClay but what good is that if the improved talent can’t be molded into a team that wins in the playoffs?

The enjoyment of sports is in the unknown. Knowing Dallas loses in the first round would take that away but I would still watch to see how/why they lose I guess. If you could tell me the final score I suppose I’d wager quite a bit on the game.

No of course not. Once you make the playoffs it’sa new season and anything can happen.
How often does that happen? That's exception thinking and not the rule, homefield teams dominate going to the Big Dance. You are still taking the same team into the playoffs that you had in the regular season so it's not really a new season.

But the question is either or, the anything can happen isn't applied. It's end at 16 or go one more game and end at 17.

Now, Rocky, I know you're the eternal optimist, and that's a compliment, so I am going to give you a bonus. In the playoff loss, you can have your choice of "it's a catch/it's not a catch" or the PI in NO.

Yes and no.
Yes and no what? Are they perfect? No. Are they better than most? Yes.

I don't know how anyone can objectively believe that the Dallas Cowboys don't draft well, especially in the first round.

Sure it's the exception, but what's the point of playing the games at all if the exception never occurs - if the unexpected never happens? Athletic competition has no purpose if the competitors have no belief in the ability to overcome adversity. Fandom either for that matter.

As for the either/or choice, are you asking how we would choose if we had a crystal ball and knew in advance when we would be eliminated, or are you asking if, after knowing we were one and done, we would rather have not been in the playoffs at all? That's an important distinction because under one scenario you know in advance there is no hope of going deeper in the playoffs, and in the other, you get to at least hold out hope and enjoy the anticipation up to the point of getting beat.

I will enjoy watching them play as far as they can go. If they fall short i won't lose sleep over it.
