Connor Williams should be benched

It really is weird that they run left so much. You would think the strong side with martin, collins and a tight end would be the side to make your living on. It seems they always go between williams-frederick or williams-smith though.

My main gripe is we continue to run his away as opposed to being All Pro Martin and Collins

No matter where they ran last night, the Vikings were shutting it down. Why stop passing? Cobb and Cooper were killing it.

I don't think he was the total cause, i saw FredBeard getting knocked back too, i just think there DT's out muscled ours. I agree on someone else's take that Connor should be a Tackle, he's not strong enough in the trunk and lower half, he's a finesse Guard and a good pass blocker.
Yeah, if you wanna bench OL who aren't really passing the eye test, you gotta throw Freddy & Zach in there as well. Not like they were getting any push or picking up twists that great either.

As a coach you have to put players in position to succeed. Whoever called the 2nd and 2 play for Zeke to run to left instead of behind Martin is dumb. It was boneheaded call and just plain stupid.

I've kind of checked out on really paying attention to things like the Oline. I just don't want to invest too much time with this team anymore because they aren't worth it.

BUT...

If it's true he is struggling then to me it's obvious that you either give Looney a look or McGovern if he is available.

Joe Looney is a stud and he will never get the credit he deserves. Dude can play but can he play guard as well as he played center..?

Well another game and another screwup by Connor Williams that cost us the game. Xavier should be starting ahead of him.

I don't know if Xavier is better but Williams is clearly the weak link, and weak is the operative word.

He and Collins should've switched spots awhile ago...now Collins looks to actually be good tackle so now its up to McGovern to take his spot and maybe Williams can be a swing tackle. He ain't a guard. I'm tired of watching it. Do him a favor and move his position.

If you are talking about the play where Zeke got tackled for the loss, Williams didn't miss the block, his job as to block at the 2nd level, and Frederick was supposed to get over to block the DT. Maybe Williams should have chipped the DT a little, I don't know, but Williams was not the guy with primary responsibility for the DT on that play.

….but we jump on Zeke rather quickly when you truly need to examine the OL's play all year. They aren't who they used to be.....and it's glaring.

Williams is excellent blocking on the move, and getting to the second level. Its when he is forced to block a DT one on one that he is weak. He fights to a draw most of the time, but in the running game he needs to move his guy out of the hole or prevent him from getting outside and he is not able to do that without help from Frederick. But then Frederick can't get to the second level and take out the LB or safety. But on the right side, Dallas has Zack Martin and Collins. Martin is supposed to be such a great G and Collins is a good run blocker. Why not run behind them when they need two yards? Then they can pull Willliams and let him block on the move. I have to look at the replay but it did not look to me like anyone on the interior was winning the battles last night or the Vikings were giving them too many guys to block.

Having said that, pass protection was actually pretty good most of the night. The Vikings DEs are outstanding and for the most part Smith and Collins kept them off of Dak.

I am hoping Connor McGovern can play because he supposedly has the nastiness you want on the offensive line and he looks bigger than Williams. If not I think Dallas need to invest in a guard or find some way to make Connor Williams stronger.

Seems to me Pollard would have had more speed to run outside and have a few screens thrown his way too
Zeke has done well in screens....Cowboys refuse to adjust the Boise State Playbook....as for Sweet Feet Pollard.....he got racked last night too with the porous run blocking and should be used as a pass catching back, but didn't he drop some balls last week?....has the OC taken him out due to lack of creativity?

Williams whiffed on that combo block on the last run play. You could see Fredrick’s frustration. Just a high school like screw up.

yeh Fredrick looked like he was disappointed with that whiff block on Conner.
Slow motion replay showed that Conner did not have a clue of who to block down on and he actually leaned and fire out to the middle LB ... and looking around..
and Griffin was already up field and untouched.

every game or so, I think we may see Conner have a flag or brain dead play like this .. but overall he's athletic and just decent enough to keep him starting in games .. vs having to resort to Xavier Filo Sua
who is an emergency type but he will slip his share of blown blocks, he doesnt slide well enough vs movement and he will wear down as the game goes on.
Fans may just have to wait until next year and see what the other Connor and 3rd rd pick McGovern has to offer when he is finally completely healed and whole.

See if McGovern can be a more viable starter as he may be naturally suited as an interior OG than Williams,

Play Looney at guard.

but not Sua filo. Because he isn’t any better.
