of all the decisions made in the game full of weird moves ... having Austin fair catch at mid field to preserve TOs is one of the dumbest in game calls I can imagine

that scenario is exactly why Tavon is of value ... Sunday night lights and open field

if you sign a speedster, a self describe "weapon" - then give him a shot to impact the game and season

the coaching call is bad enough but IMO, Tavon should have ignored his coach - sad but true

There's a tweet saying Austin was "doing what he was told" and then Garrett said this:

This tweet reveals the sort of confusion that exists due to JGs less than effective instructions. He put the onus of decision-making in the hands of a seldom-used player. Once the confusion manifested itself, Garrett blamed the player for the unclear instructions that he, himself gave. It ended as an unfortunate setup for failure. He should have taken half the blame for infusing the situation with more confusion than necessary. Arrogant people like JG routinely have big trouble admitting to their failings.

Garrett is full of it. There's no way Austin, who is dying to make a play, ices himself by faircatching with no defender within 20 yards. Garrett should be ashamed to insinuate such a thing. Great leader he is...
If Tavon Austin has any lion DNA in him, he's not making a fair catch if it's totally and solely his call.
If he did, then he doesn't need to be playing football because TRUE football players LIVE for that scenario.
No one is catching TA until he reached deep inside Vikings' territory.
Sometimes, you can coach the "dog" out of your team and your players. :(

Yep, he's throwing Austin under the bus. Austin was waving fair catch before that punt even start coming down. He was 100% told to do that.

So that's Dak thrown under the bus, Austin thrown under the bus... anyone else Garrett is going to blame to save his skin?

I'm with you, if Tavon had any balls whatsoever he would have caught the ball and been off to the races.

That had to be on the coaches.

The only odd thing is that I would have expected them to use Cobb if they were just going to fair catch the punt.

They use both Cobb and Austin to field punts this season. Usually they use Austin if they think they have a chance for a return but use Cobb when a clean catch is the primary goal.

Clock would have stopped when Austin went down anyway.

Garrett trying to throw Tavon under the bus. Fans dont buy it one iota ginger you cretin.

He sabotaged Wade, threw Romo under the bus multiple times, and now throwing everyone under the bus. I want us to win, but I sort of wouldn't blame the team for showing up to Detroit, letting themselves get owned, and throwing Garrett under the bus. Show him that we don't thank you for trying to sabotage us too.

Maybe Garrett didn't make the call, maybe it was the special teams coach, but SOMEone did, because he called for the fair catch way too soon.

But it's just another coaching mistake in a LONG LINE of them for Garrett or his staff. To be expected.

I think JJ's getting tired, he's too old, and he's not able to see the light at the end of the Superbowl tunnel. I expect a change to be made in the offseason.
