So I'm not sure how many fans LOVE the coach that lights a fire under the players and holds them accountable. The great Mike Singletary once said, "can't play with him!"

All Garret does is answer the question honestly and fans kill him or refuse to believe him.

They don't tell players not to make a big play

OTHER teams don’t tell their players to not make a big play, however, you seem to have forgotten that these are the Cowboys we’re talking about. We’d do something on that caliber of stupidity/conservativeness. I have no doubt in my mind someone on that coaching staff told him to fair catch.

Yep, he's throwing Austin under the bus. Austin was waving fair catch before that punt even start coming down. He was 100% told to do that.

So that's Dak thrown under the bus, Austin thrown under the bus... anyone else Garrett is going to blame to save his skin?

A clip of Garrett during the press conference.......

we didn't even have timeouts, so take those 10+ yards down the sideline if you can and give us two shots into the endzone. Instead we wasted more time with short passes to throw once into the endzone.

It was odd, thought he had a chance to make a play. Maybe he gets to the 35-40 worst case with 8 seconds left. Maybe gives you two end zone shots. Still low probability come back.

Or maybe he takes it to the house? The world will never know.

I'm still not sure he did that. If asked a question by the media, is he supposed to lie and say there were no options - no ability to call an audible, no decisions for anyone to make on the sidelines or on the field?

He’s been the coach for this team for over 10 years. He’s media trained. He knows what to say and what not to say. What he did was disrespectful and he knows it. He didn’t even use his usual robotic responses. Any other time he would have said “Im not even sure. We just didn’t execute as a team on that play” or “We’ll work with our special teams groups on more punt returns”. Stop finding excuses for that narcissistic coach.

This is what you want to believe because it fits with anger over a frustrating loss, but it's nonsensical to pretend the Cowboys would preach to their team to avoid making a big play.

The most likely scenario is that the team told Austin to be cautious, and that unless he was confident that there was plenty of running room for a big play then preserving time was crucial and a fair catch was the way to go. And face it folks, it's not easy for a punt returner to stare down the coverage team to be absolutely sure how much room he has and also keep his eye on the ball to make sure he fields it cleanly. Contrary to what some think, the punt returner doesn't get the full field video and the benefit of replay that TV viewers do to see exactly how much room he has and exactly what the best path is. Austin likely just went with the ultra conservative approach because he was afraid of running off precious seconds.

You went with generalizations and chose not to directly answer the question.

lol - imagine how you would have reacted to him saying "I'm not sure what we were doing on that play". He would have then been an idiot that doesn't know what's going on, and weak for not being willing to say what happened.

This tweet reveals the sort of confusion that exists due to JGs less than effective instructions. He put the onus of decision-making in the hands of a seldom-used player. Once the confusion manifested itself, Garrett blamed the player for the unclear instructions that he, himself gave. It ended as an unfortunate setup for failure. He should have taken half the blame for infusing the situation with more confusion than necessary. Arrogant people like JG routinely have big trouble admitting to their failings.

Im certain Garrett is a really smart guy when given time to collect his thoughts, analyze and forecast his decisions.

Unfortunately football is a heat of the moment type of game, and he poops his panties under pressure. He freezes up and makes awful decisions. We've seen it over and over. Our coach in training still hasnt turned the corner.

Garrett PC on now. Said it wasn't communicated well enough to Austin to run if he thought he had room.

Funny how Garrett gets so prickly at even the mildest criticism.

Yup, his MO is who can I blame first. How is it not his fault. Then, what scapegoat can they find?

Wonder which decision will haunt Garrett the most?

1. Trying a 57 yard field goal instead of punting, giving Minnesota a short field on their first TD.
2. Running twice after reaching the red zone behind 28-24.
3. Not calling timeout before 4th and 5. Come up with a better play.
4. Icing Tavon Austin.

Austin scooting in the open field in a scramble situation was our best chance to score vs. the hail mary. Worst case scenario, he gets to the 35-40 yard line in 8-10 seconds.

None of the above cuz Jerry won't fire him until the season ends.
