Again, get it through your thick skull that the qb, has free reign to check in and put of plays. That s his job. Zeke just said the calls were rpos. Dak has faith in Zeke

It doesn't matter, it was dumb to use Elliott when he contributed nothing to the offense last night. That makes Dak, as dumb as his coaching staff.

Dallas should be 9-0. Lose to the Jets by 2 . Saints by 2. Packers by 3. Vikings by 4. 11 points separate Dallas from being 9-0 vs. 5-4.... well 15 points.

The team is lucky to have five wins. The GM holds all the cards, and the owner is too powerful to remove. I thank God for allowing me to witness the 70's through the 90's, because that was as good as it is going to get for this organization.

Every year the Cowboys win a participation trophy, for popularity, marketability, and revenue. The organization, staff, and players; hang their hats on media coverage and air time. They will never come close to winning another championship.

again, context. It’s the RED ZONE..

Man coverage single safety even with their starting CB out on those plays. The OL gave Dak plenty of times on those throws on third down. The Jarwin throw was basically three yards that was major RAC based on all the time Dak had.

The last drive was a different situation, especially the 4th and 2. Vikings played two safeties and shadowed over Cooper. Dallas was obviously playing for the first.

Also to put this in perspective, Dallas had another drive in the fourth that ended in a FG, and they threw on second and third down. That drive was aided by the BS holding call when Dak got sacked on third down.

Dallas basically scored on INTERMEDIATE to deeper routes, not in short situations. Not a single TD came from within ten yards in.

I’m not sure what this signifies exactly. Maher has a cannon. 57 is well within his range.

We’d all have been clapping with Garrett had Maher drilled it.

I think his point is trying such a long field goal on your first possession is a bad call. If you make it, great but it’s such a low percentage high risk, low reward play that smart coaches don’t try it.

A smart coach always punts there because you hate to give your opponent such a short field to start the game. It could set a negative tone, cause you to abandon your game plan and put your defense in a hole from the outset.

Since we know Garrett is responsible for half of the attempts of the ridiculous extra long first possession FG since 1994, I’d love to see the coaches who kicked the other ones. I’d bet they are no longer coaching at this point.

Unless we see some actual proof of correlation between those attempts and bad football, I still don’t get this angle.

What if the few teams who attempted those early, long kicks wound up going 2-2 or 3-1 in those 4 games?

Again, your feelings about the play are entirely dependent on whether or not the FG is good.

I didn’t like the decision initially, BUT I would’ve loved the decision had Maher made that kick. It happens.

Agreed.

Although, in fairness Maher was 10-14 from 50+ yards heading into the game for his career, so you get where Garrett had confidence in him to connect.

That said, a 57-yard FG attempt on the first possession of the game just isn’t a prudent decision. Those are situational specific where you’re typically protected by the clock or by a big lead.

Instead, you miss the kick and effectively flip the field for the opponent.

This decision against the Vikes wasn’t situationally smart, which seems to be his overall legacy during the past decade.

I hear you but it’s just 3 points. If you make it you get 3 points on your opening drive. If you miss, your opponent is now 2 first downs from 3 points on their opening drive, and that’s if you get a stop.

I’d rather pin a team back and play the field position game. If you give up 2 first downs and get the stop, they are punting and you got another shot at 7 at 0-0.

I just don’t like the shot in the arm your opponent gets from the short field on their first drive...
