The entire coaching staff needs to be purged. That's not something that can happen mid-season. So I expect this to happen once our season is concluded. Jason Garrett on down, gone. Let the new HC hire his own staff. The poison on the current staff is too prominent to spare anyone.

The real poison is Jerry and Stephen. Add in overrated Will McClay as well.

It just shows coaching, again, provides no advantage and is only a detriment to this team on game day.

Situational Football
0:24 seconds left, need a TD, getting the ball near midfield on a punt. The clock will stop on change of possession. No timeouts

A. You can set up for a block and let the Returner FC or perhaps get a cheap 5 and give himself up.
B. You can set up for a return and protect as MINN has no gunners due to max protect against the rush. Maybe get to the 35-40 yard line in 5-6 seconds at least
C. You can not rush and FC. Nullifying any potential plus play
.....And they chose C.

The returner can use the entire field for 5-6 seconds and max yardage. No matter what, any Offense has only two options
1. Throw 3 Hail Mary's
2. Work the sidelines quick to get OB as anything in bounds once the offense has the ball ends the game

Both carry low percentage of success. Most games that are in this situation, and try option 2, have to get more than 3-6 yards per play.


These are implications of a faulty decision tree and lack of awareness. you can tell nothing was discussed and no one was assertive of what to do.

This is not a one time occurrence, this is not an end of game only occurrence - though the Az, Baltimore, and this fiasco are just sunlight due the "last impression". It is ingrained in the DNA and that is why you usually see Dallas have success when they scrap playbooks and play backyard ball.

It say that O'Quinn told him to fair catch, not Garrett.

Garrett should have gotten it right with his special teams coach on what Tavon was told, before making Tavon look bad to the media.

Hey Tavon, might not want to buy any green bananas. Players in the past who saw through Garrett got their heads cut off pretty quickly.

I can just see Garrett getting Jerry in a private meeting and convincing him that these guys are bad apples and need to go. Wonder if Jerry will eventually see through it.

And that brings up a point: Everyone thinks Garrett is purely a Jerry puppet, and in some ways he definitely is. But Jerry is pretty football stupid. I believe there have been many times in the last decade where Garrett has talked Jerry into doing things to protect his own skin, and Jerry has bought it because 1) he loves and and trusts Jason, and 2) he's too football stupid to know better.

IOW, Jerry isn't the only con man on this team.

The thing is that if it's true that the other players in the locker room are upset with Garrett shifting the blame to Austin for a decision that one of the coaches told him to make and they release him out of spite, then it could turn the locker room and the players even more against Garrett. If Tavon is well liked in the locker room and the players know that Tavon got let go out of Garrett's revenge, then this is going to make Garrett lose that locker room for good once this team loses the division of misses the playoffs.

Garrett has no control over his players or even his staff. He is done! Even if you're a Jerry puppet, you still have to be on the same page as your assistants and they clearly aren't. Garrett is so bad at everything...poor X's and O's, poor in-game management, overrated leadership.

Exactly! This is the whole damn problem! If Garrett had just come out and said right off the bat that it was on the coaches, which it 100% is, this would be a non factor. Throwing players under the bus has never in the history of the NFL or any other sport, resulted in a positive result for a coach. It is the quickest way to get the team to turn on you. Watch what happens, I think this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Even if Garrett was lied to, he still owes Tavon an apology for making Tavon look bad to the media like that. But, Garrett is unable to take accountability for anything. It's always everybody else's fault but his.

Gonna play devil's advocate here, guess what if Austin returns it and fumbles now who gets the blame Garrett but the entire sideline was there for Austin for a big return!

if he fumbled Austin would have gotten the blame just like Cole Beasley did when he fumbled at the end of the giants game a few years ago. They didn't get a chance to comeback because beasley fumbled and the game was over. Beasley was blamed completely.

I think JG has gone to extremes not throw individuals under the bus, coaches or players. And JJ tends to honor a contract.

That said, it was a cowardly and idiotic move - serious violation of the spirit of the game by O'Quinn.

Because Jerry does the hiring and firing. I have said it over and over that Jerry has Garrett hamstrung because he does not let Garrett hire his own staff
