Same people complaining about the NFL getting soft would also be the first in line for a lifetime of medical care if their brain got permanently damaged.
And that's the biggest reason NFL is becoming soft. Head injuries are very serious. Football has a serious head injury problem. It will never go away unless the helmet is eliminated. And that's never going to happen.

Garrett is just WRONG on so many levels, not just Myles

I didn't watch the game, but I keep seeing things that said that the QB was being a punk (he didn't deserve to have his head bashed with a helmet, but perhaps otherwise)

Its all about Risk vs Reward, and the NFL is the only true Gladiator sport left on the planet.
Maybe there is still dirt diving in Yugoslavia, where you climb up a 30 foot ladder and dive head first in to the ground,, IDK, but I bet they got no insurance.
These players make millions, and I would imagine that they understand the risk vs reward scenario thoroughly before signing that contract.

What im saying is. The nfl is a business. You know how much money it costs to provide care for people who are brain damaged?

Also, people talking about “soft this” “soft that”. If they were the one getting their brain damaged, their tune might change.

Right. Even though it may not be as fun to watch. The nfl is doing the right thing. They have to to try and minimize head injuries. They just have to. It’s not even an option

Wonder if the WBA provided medical for their stars, like Muhammad Ali?

He's obviously a bit tone deaf. A lot of people agree with that sentiment in general, but when a guy takes a helmet off and uses it as a weapon it's the wrong time to make a stupid remark like that.

The Cleveland guy shouldn't see a football field the rest of the year.

Maybe each team should have one no holds barred game per season with barbwire weapons lining the sidelines and a giant linked fence surrounding the field.
Isn’t that why they are adding the 17th game!?

I don't see that having rules and consequences against whacking other players across the bare head with a helmet is necessarily getting "soft".

40 years ago, it probably would have been a penalty, but nothing else. In the 55 years I've watched the NFL, what Garrett did doesn't even crack the top 5 of most violent acts in a game.

I do understand protecting players. If they don't, kids won't be playing the sport as youngins. Then there won't be new blood entering the pro ranks. Billionaires are protecting their investments.

At the same time, it needs to be remembered football is a violent sport. It requires a special man to take the beating of the sport. If too much of the violence is taken away, it will lose its mystique.

IMO, they're turning the game into a mess with all the rules intended to reduce the injury risk. In their zeal to clean it up, they have caused more injuries than they've prevented.

Flags have interfered with the flow of the games. Defensive players have so many don'ts, they don't know what they can and can't do. It's getting so there can't be a big hit without a flag flying.

I do believe what Garrett did was wrong and deserves a fine and suspension. Also the true nature of the sport has to be taken into consideration when handing out punishment to him and the other participants. Emotions run high, tempers flare, and horrible incidents occur.

You really should watch a rugby match. When you do, take note that not a single player is wearing pads, and very few are wearing light head gear. Hockey players don't exactly play nice either.

The QB actually tried ripping Garrett's helmet off while Garrett was on top of him, and that's why Garrett ripped his off. Up to that point, Garrett's actions were understandable. Swinging the helmet was beyond stupid.

He should consider himself lucky. If that had been Brady, or the NFL Golden Boy Rodgers, he would have never played in the NFL again...
