It doesn't seem like he was fired because of his coaching abilities. Seems to me there must not have been a great relationship with management. I can see why after seeing Rivera getting fired. He lost his star QB and the idiot management fired the coach. Give me a bloody break!

He was failing when Cam was healthy as well.

You can say the same about Sean Payton and his 7-9 record 3 years in a row, fairly recently. Payton has had losing records 4 of the last 8 years. Rivera has had 5 losing seasons in the last 8 but made it to a Super Bowl during that time. Btw, Garrett doesn't look so bad next to those two...having only 1 losing season in the last 8 years.

Sean Payton won a Super Bowl....

And Payton was on the hot seat for a while, so much so rumors of his return to Dallas started back up.

I know. But there isn't a huuuge difference between playing in a Super Bowl and winning one.

Anyway, IMO the Rivera firing must be more than just wins and losses.

Firing a head coach when they are not eliminated from the playoffs? That's possible?

Eh, they aren't gonna get a wildcard spot. Vikings/Packers/Seahawks/49ers are pretty much on their way to win the division or taking the wildcard spots.

Their new owner has stated he's not going to settle for mediocrity, and that's what Ron Rivera is. Did some good things in Carolina, but it was simply just time.

He would be an upgrade over Garrett

But there are better candidates out there, IMO.

Rivera's goose was cooked when Tepper bought the team last year. Rivera is an old school style coach while Tepper is a big analytics guy from his hedge fund days. Rivera was never a fit once Tepper bought the team.

no he would NOT..not one bit..sorry look above for what we all know.. Garett does not suck he is not terrible, he is on par with the likes of Rivera and thats not what we need.. we have a good coach we simply need a GREAT coach..

Rivera's just another average good coach.. No average retreads for our new coach.. if thats the case , keep Garett..

Management obviously wasn't convince about Rivera and already had doubts about him before Newton had the long injury absence.
Rumors has it that even Newton may not be safe, as he carries an enormous cap hit number into next year,

Rivera's staff likely to follow... and for the record I do not at all want Norv Turner returning here as a coach.

Ron would actually be my first choice for DC. A guy that can coordinate a 4-3 or a 3-4 at a high level is a guy that knows defense. Plus he value big bodies in the middle

I had others in mind as DC candidates, such as Dan Quinn (ATL) and Jack Del Rio, too..

But any possible DC candidates likely have to be thought over by the new HC.
