Blake Jarwin should be the TE #1, his pass protection and run blocking skills are just as good as Witten's. One thing Jarwin has that Witten will never be able to provide is explosive plays in the passing game, giving the offense another gear to convert in crucial downs.

How many times on 3rd down we see a pass underneath to Witten and the old man runs for 2 yards or always falling behind 1st down marker if he didn't drop the pass already.

Witten is like an old spark plug that needs a changing.

Pop open a box of that new jarwin brand and we are running a little smoother.

If your offense is based on run first like ours then you carry extra TE's to help block. Just stating the obvious here but if they are expected to block more than say a team like the Pats you need to have big, strong TE's which we have one of and block's the best (apparently). Every time this comes up to the coaches the answer is always the same, "Jason is the best blocker of the 3 and that's why he is in there most of the time. So this tells me they are predictably "run heavy" even though you and I know the Dak is throwing the ball all over the place. Yes if we are going to continue to have Dak throw every down it would make good sense to put in another "receiver typy" TE !!

Jarwin is Tony Gonzalez. A receiver that releases from the line and can also split out.

Witten is a more traditional tight end.

I think they use them both well. I really don’t understand the complaints here. This is the one thing I think they do right.

Except when it’s 3rd and 12 and Witten is in and Jarwin is out

Jarwin is a good of a run blocker as Witten so even that point is mute.

We screwed the pooch with TEs.

No blocking TE. Schultz blows.

So we've really just got two TEs. Witten's ypt is only 6.4. Jarwin 8.6. Looks like they do give us a good chunk of 1st downs, though.

I always call this the "Marion Barber Syndrome". They see a back flashing in limited duty and assume they will do the same thing as a starter. Fans assume MBIII would get a billion yards rushing as a starter when in reality he played much worse when he had to carry a full load.

It seems like the Cowboys have never figured out how to utilize two TEs in the passing game. They Eagles do a great job of it. I think Witten is the better run blocker now that he has cut down on the penalty calls this year. I also think he is better at contested catches than Jarwin. But Jarwin clearly has better RAC ability. They need to get him open in space and on the move. That's where he is way better than Witten. I am surprised the don't get Jarwin on seam routes more often, especially with his length. He looks like a serious mismatch against LBs and even most CBs in that regard.
