Suppose we did beat the Rams and get some momentum. I went through the record books curious if any Cowboys team ever did lose this much at the much at the end and make it far.
For our franchise, it's not good. The only two I found were:
1998, lost week 13-15, kicked out in first game with Arizona Cardinals, that was the game that made Plummer a hero
1979, lost week 11-13, kicked out in first game with LA Rams
This team reminds me of both of that 1998 team. '79 was Staubach's last run.
So I looked at the modern NFL, went back to 2005 on all 4 teams that played in Conference Championships and lost 3 in a row near the end and found this:
2012, Baltimore Ravens, they lost weeks 13-15, that's the year they won the Super Bowl with Flacco, they were 10-6 that year
2011, I remember the G-Men getting hot at the right time twice, and the NYG lost Weeks 10-13 and 15, and won the Super Bowl that year, that's the one where he tried to stop on the 1 yard line
2009, the Saints lost their last 3 games before winning the Super Bowl that year, but I'm not sure this one counts because they were 13-0 and held their starters out the 3rd loss
2005, the Steelers lost 3 in a row near the end of the year before going all in and Cowher winning his Super Bowl and retiring
None of the losers in the Conference Championships or Super Bowls had those loss streaks at the end. Seems like you either go all the way or just fizzle out like the '98 Cowboys.
