My Thoughts New Coaching Staff

I think my preference is:

HC: Urban Meyer

DC: Maybe a veteran NFL DC (Ron Rivera...).
Somebody that can run a Hybrid 4-3 & 3-4 would be great but it has to be fundamentally sound, not that mess Rob Ryan tried to run. The Pats run a hybrid but switch back and forth on their base over the years based on their roster and possibly on how offenses are trending. They changed their base 4-3 in the Super Bowl to counter the specifics of the Rams blocking scheme. They've gone back to more 3-4 this year on 1st downs and short yardage but other downs are a hybrid.

OC: Meyer's choice from the college ranks. If his preferred choices are not available I think Kellen Moore with an HC like Meyer can become a good OC. I'm near-100% certain that Moore will be a top OC someday, somewhere but he needed a better HC as a rookie OC.

OL Coach: An extremely critical hire unless the new OC (like Shannahan in SF) is a master of OL schemes (specifically the ZBS). Columbo is good at coaching individual technique but he played in a man blocking scheme and is now trying to coach the ZBS.

If a new Head Coach just takes over the existing coaching staff, then it will likely fail.
xwalker--- i honestly believe we need to clean house.....our defense playing as poorly as offense....even Marinelli said they are not hearing him anymore....that is code for i need to be fired....if i were any of the cowboy coaches i would resign my poition ....does not make anyone ( except Garrett ha ha ) a bad coach....just the way footbal goes...when it gets stale you move on

Doesnt matter what their records are, the fact is the trend is going towards younger guys.

Look at this yr the hottest coaches will be guys like

Eric Bieniemy
Dan Campbell
Brian Daboll
Matt Eberflus
Mike Lafleur
Josh McDaniels
Robert Saleh

Only 1 has been a HC and only for 2 yrs.
Latin-- what is your view of Urban Meyers?

If a new coach wants ANY of our coaches, I would't want em.

I don't think Urban Meyer takes the job unless Jerry gives him permission to hire his own staff. And I believe it's trending that way with any HC they hire, considering this current staff of 1-year rentals they put together for Garrett's lameduck season.
i believe we must move away from Marinelli's scheme on defense....NFL has figured it out...our players are much better than they play...the whole issue of not getting interceptions for years is so disturbing to me

He's a guy who easily gets his players to believe in what he trying to do. He's smart and relies on his coaches to do their jobs and work as one to win games.

Theres 2 red flags for me with him.

The biggest is his health.
The next one is him and Elliot didnt see eye to eye.

Yeah. I read that article too.

You aren't even speculating, just copying from someone else's speculation.

I think it would be funny if Garrett doesn't get renewed and no one wants to coach here.

Think about it, everyone and their mother knows Jones has to be in control.

My wife is an Ohio State grad, so we watched more than a few Buckeyes games under Meyer. I was also intrigued with him way before then when he was at Utah and Bowling Green. Great coach.

BUT....

UM is not the kind of guy who looks to be controlled. He clashed some with the president at Ohio State. Meyer is known to be a control freak (like Jimmy was) and I honestly find it hard to fathom that he would agree to come to Dallas where he has to take a back seat to a loose lipped 77 year old billionaire who wants the spotlight. I just can’t see Urban Meyer agreeing to work in the circus.

HC....agree 1000%

OC.....No problem Meyers keeping Moore. In fact, It would not surprise me at all if Jerry makes retaining Kitna and Moore a condition of the new coach.
DC......I'm going outside the box and suggest Steve Belichick IF Bill gives approval that he's ready. What I like about this hire is he'll have his dad's ear EVERY NIGHT AND AFTER EVERY GAME.
OL......I'd bring Bill Callahan back....
I could learn to like that
Just tap the kids phone to make sure dad isn’t getting any info

Last yr Bieniemy and Campbell were already getting HC interviews. You can deny it all you want, but this league is following the young coach trend. Going with younger minds instead of the retreads.

They didn't interview him last year despite interviewing like 7 or 8 candidates. They have a number of high ranking front office people who worked with McCarthy before and no one was lobbying for him last year. Hard to believe anything happened to change that.
He came out and said he's not looking for a job until his step son graduates from High School in Green Bay. I believe he's a senior this year. He's not coaching yet by choice. He won't have trouble finding a HC job when the time comes.

Get ready for Head Coach Jack Del Rio.

If I'm going to the college ranks, Jim Harbaugh is the coach I would target. Has a track record of success of the NFL Level, hired tremendous assistants to work under him, both will be head coaches next year; Denver HC and Roman from Baltimore.

Sounds great but to me trying something different and failing miserably sounds great as well.

I just hope we don't give another coach 10 years if they haven done anything in their first 4 or 5 like Garrett.

Win something or leave.
