My Thoughts on Dak's contract

Here are some notable FA quarterbacks coming in 2020 -
Jameis Winston
Marcus Mariota
Ryan Tannehill
Case Keenum
Teddy Bridgewater

Dak Prescott is in that class of quarterbacks. It's a buyers market for quarterbacks of Dak's caliber. Let him become a FA and pick the cheapest of the bunch and draft a quarterback high and develop him. The team can go 7-9 and 9-7 with any one of those quarterbacks without the requirement of that kind of contract.
Right now, I'd say it's

Dak
Tannehill
Winston
Bridgewater
Mariota
Keenum

We should be worried. Dak has shown he is not the type of QB who can without top shelf talent around him, which is fine, not many QB's are in that tier. But those that can are the one's who deserve top money. When you give all this money to Dak, you can't give it to others, you can't put the pieces around him he needs to excel.

Of course it could all just be on coaching. Hopefully we find out soon. I'm all for tagging him this off-season and seeing what next year brings.

So the top tier QBs need a great coach to look good? You're either a truck or a trailer. You either pull or get pulled

Meh. Dak has pissed me off these last 3 games, but he's better than all of those QB's. All of those QB's have been in the league longer than Dak has, and Dak still continues to improve and grow. I have yet to see improvement from the other QB's listed. Winston is still a turnover machine. Mariota is... Mariota. Tannehill is a solid starter, but I feel like he's riding off of the momentum in Tennessee. It may slow down if he stays with Tennessee next season. Keenum? Nah. Bridgewater likely stays in NO. With Brees getting older, he's a good backup/solid starter til they find another franchise QB if Brees retires. He would also be a good mentor to a rookie QB if they were to get one in the up and coming years.
I agree, though I think Tannehill has improved a good bit, there's probably still a gap between Dak and all of those listed.
Plus, Tannehill is already over 30. Surprised me when I looked it up.

Winston is the youngest (25) and is the most gifted passer, but the dude just makes so many poor decisions.

I like Dak over that list of QB’s but that isn’t saying much. I am not sold on him being the future with a huge contract. For me, the only answer is to tag him and see if a new offensive system fares better for him(and the offense) utilizing his skillset.

It would be a mistake to give him Goff, Wentz type money and then he doesn’t mesh well with the new head coach/OC ideas and direction.

The sticking point seems to be Dallas wants a long term contract over 6 yrs. Dak's team is pushing for a 4 yr deal. The agents want that guaranteed money. Dallas wants the long term deal to be able to restructure and keep him happy with more guaranteed money.

Offer 1
If i was the team i would go to Dak's team with two offers. One for 10 yrs says 350mil 100 mil guranteed. And say after yr 4 you go back and you restructure to get more guranteed money to Dak and lower the cap adding money as a signing bonus and prorating that for the final 5 yrs of the deal. In a situation like this he will never make over say 33-35mil a yr, and never really cripples the cap especially the way the cap is going up.

Offer 2
4yrs 120mil fully guaranteed. Dak will make a ton of money in 4 yrs and be at a lower yrly avg then Wentz and Goff and Wilson but will make his money and with the ability to score again in 4 yrs. In that time Dallas could find his eventual replacement if hes not still producing. In 4 yrs he would make 4mil less then what Romo made his entire career.

he has more power than Dallas right now because you waited. He can just say ‘give me exactly what I want or I’m not signing any franchise tender.’

losing a year for a QB is nothing like Leveon Bell losing a year. He’ll be in ship shape ready for his release. Or more likely you’ll trade him and get pennies on the dollar for a franchise QB.

why is committing to him with real money so difficult? Draft a new QB an start over on a 5 year plan? Give him his money, you can afford it and he’s earned it

IDK why fans and media are so impatient for news on a deal. Both sides said before the season started there probably wouldnt be a deal done until after the season. Same with Cooper.

Everytime the Jones' have talked about Dak or asked a question about Dak never has the answer not been " he is our franchise QB". It took almost a whole yr to get Rodgers deal done from the time they started talking.

Well let's ask a non Cowboys fan homer and see what they think.
Why dont you ask any GM in the NFL if they would rather have Tannehill or Dak Prescott and you can go cry in a corner when you get laughed out of the building.

There's always a Ryan Tannehill available.

No they didnt, Jerry has said repeatedly throughout the season that a deal was 'imminent'. It was specifically stressed after the team was 3-1 and Dak was dominating. Something has happened in negotiations since then to change his mind.

Umm. Yes . He is. I would take Dak over any of those players listed and it isnt even close.

But is Dak worth 25 to 35 million more than what those other quarterbacks would command?

In the open market, most certainly not.

So spend 10 million on those quaterbacks (or Dak when his demands align with his value) and use the other 20 million to make the team better.

Dak is getting signed
Hopefully cooper too
This teams problem is not QB
It’s the staff and the defense

lol. Wow. IN todays market. Any competent GM would give dak 30-35 million. Period.

Nothing has changed.
