Rhule coached under Coughlin, he has been in the NFL and saw it done at the highest level under a hall of fame coach.

Rhule makes all the sense in the world but he won't be treated as an equal by Jerry and he knows that. He is going to end up in NY and they are going to have a great coach going forward.

He also has a master degree in psychology. Guess who else has a master's in psychology......yep Jimmy. Is it possible Jerry could this guy as a Jimmy Johnson clone?

While so many seem seduced by Urban a few weeks ago shouting out the Cowboys (and people bit hard on that), Matt Rhule is the guy I’ve been pulling for to land this gig.

Meyer and Riley are outstanding coaches who develop talent, no doubt. Rhule has not only taken Baylor to the brink of a national playoff berth, but he won ten games (twice) at Temple. Remember, Baylor was losing games to the likes of UTSA and Liberty when he first got there.

The guy just comes off as really buttoned-up, has his shhhh together. Unlike these other two, who rarely work with a talent disadvantage, Rhule is usually grinding to find any edge he can. You know, he’s actually coaching.

He may not look the part and the name isn’t all that sexy as coaches go, but I can certainly understand why NFL teams are all over the guy.

how many frigging times a week does he go on that damned show?

More importantly, WHY does anyone listen??

Seriously, turn the damn dial people and quit giving him a platform for his nonsense

He would curl up in a ball and cry if people quit paying attention to him and it wouldn't cost fans anything to do this

People still listen to what this clown has to say? It's mind boggling. Like nails on a chalkboard while he just talks in circles. If I see him on TV or hear him on the radio, I tune out immediately. His incoherent ramblings mean absolutely nothing.

every time Jerry makes comments, it gets posted and talked about, most dont realize its exactly what he wants..

100% and none of it are true..those that get their feathers all ruffled are ridiculous, Garett hasn't been fired yet, seasons still active, and Jerry will not tip his hand on what he will do..

instead he puts out any and all options and public information...

you call Garett a puppet, you all our classic puppets..jerry has you on strings tied to his every word..

Urban Meyer is the ultimate group think. He said he would coach here on tv and now it has just been taken as he is the next head coach. All because he said it on tv.

I'll be honest, Rhule is moving up my list .........fast (LOL). His previous NFL experience is the key for me, especially with Super Bowl exposure.

Interesting coming from the guy who won 3 rings from a team that was orchestrated and built from a college coach...

It took Jimmy 4 years to get there, Jerry may be thinking he doesn't have that long to wait. And any Cowboys coach will never again get the wealth of draft picks and players Jimmy got for Walker, teams learned from Minnesota's mistake.

Besides, remember the "Zeke who?" comment? Some took that to mean that Jerry wasn't going to pony up the big bucks for Zeke, but he did, didn't he?

Can't take anything Jerry says at face value, his comment may very well be one of deflection....

I’d take either snd would love a guy like Rhule who has gotten NFL experience and attention before. Heard nothing but great things about how he builds rosters. He’s fiery too

Why people chase Jerry quotes is beyond me. It’s grandpa chattering away after having a go at the cough syrup.

The man has hired multiple college coaches at a time when the NFL game was eons apart from that of the NCAA.

Best believe these coaches are in Dallas’ wheelhouse.

Part of me wonders if 77 year-old Jerry might just be willing to hedge a bit more on control knowing this could be the last HC hiring he might ever make before heading to parts unknown.

For all of Jerry's warts (and there are many), I don't think his desire to bring championships to this organization should be questioned; it's just his approach to making it happen that's the core issue.
exactly what I been saying for the past few years. by the time the next contract ends, he will be over 80 if it's the standard 3 year deal.

But yeah, let's focus on the handful of exceptions rather than the more common outcome.

That's how smart people make decisions, right?

Ummmm................ it is also true that the more common outcome from hiring NFL coordinators is also failure.

People are trying to draw some distinction here that one is a more successful route than another and there really is none. A lot of NFL coordinators bomb out as HCs. A lot of college coaches bomb out as NFL coaches. Now of course one will argue that more successful coaches come from NFL backgrounds but that's because more coaches are hired with NFL pedigrees than direct from college coaches.............. and way more NFL pedigreed coaches get fired as well.

In the last few years alone, all these guys had NFL coordinator experience and failed and got fired - Gase (Jets probably will dump him soon too), Mularky, Koetter, Jackson, McAdoo, Caldwell, Del Rio, Pettine, etc.

Total side note, but I absolutely see a world where Lee/Witten are positional coaches here next year for whomever takes over as part of the dealio.

To be honest, I don't see either one as being that great of a coach. Witten didn't come back this year to be the bell cow tight end, pretty sure he's here 1. because he really missed the game 2. with his relatively low td catch total compared to Gonzales, Gates, etc. he needed to pad his stats a bit for HOF consideration and 3. Jarwin needed some coaching.

And 3. is troubling, because Jarwin's not getting the number of throws I'd expect, what with Witten in his prime getting a ton or looks, not so sure Witten can teach what he did, may be it's just instinct mostly. And Lee was great due to his coverage ability, again, not sure that's coachable.

Though I'm also sure if either or both asked JJ for a coaching job he'd get it in a heartbeat, Jerry's really a sentimental guy at heart, I believe, when it comes to former players...
